ok so im switching from my HD 7970 to the GTX 970, i know it gets messy sometimes during the driver install uninstall. before i go trying to reformat my harddrive or RMA the card im just wondering if there is any steps i missed. the tricky part here is that i have multiple hard drives and i had ATI folders in some of the seperate hard drives. anyway i went through and removed all the ATI/AMD folders that i could find manually. i uninstalled the catalyst software. ive rand driver sweeper, and i went through the registry and deleted ati/amd entries. still no signal on the monitor with the GTX 970 in

Take the mobo out of case with psu, keyboard, mouse. Put mobo on a non conductive surface elevated, reinsert the video card and press it down squared in the peg slot. Did you put the new card in same slot as the old card? Ensure the monitor is hooked to the board properly along with power supply. Also before you physically removed old card did you uninstall the drivers?

Does it show anything during POST? If not, it isn't a driver conflict issue.

nothing at all during the post, the monitor just stays un responsive. i can pop the 7970 back in and everything works fine. i have another option tomorrow ill try to take it to the local pc repair shop in town and see if they have a rig i can pop the card into and see if it recognizes it, if not could be a dead card

I'd check the PCI bracket on the card. I've seen them come slightly bent, the little section where the screw goes is slightly bent, so it felt like the card was completely seated, but the bracket was hitting the case and actually stopping the card from seating fully in the PCI-E slot.

Happened with all of my 470s.

Yup everyone wants to automatically assume the cards defective because it doesnt boot up in a case. The other thing thats happened is side of mobo and pci bracket making contact with case too.

Yeah that seems to be an issue on both sides of the fence now, amd/nvidia. Im not sure what gets changed upon updates its probably a gc detection sequence thats changed.im hoping my mobo boots right up so i can do the same to avoid any problems.

I always flash the MB BIOS to the latest version if I have trouble with a brand new tech component not working. More often than not they're for new versions of CPUs, but ya neva knows do ya.

Let us know how your 970 compares to your 7970. I'm on a 7970 and was considering a 970 upgrade some time late 2015 when I change platforms, but I decided to wait for the awesomeness of Pascal and unified memory.

BTW, what's a "montiot"? Is that a new French monitor?

lol yes its a french import monitor, well i know in the heaven benchmark, the 7970 scored 790 points, with 31fps avg, min 17 max 69.4 with 1920x1200 in max settings and
the evga 970 super clock scored 49.2 fps avg with a 1240 score and a min 23 max 107.
decent improvement, but this 970 could be over clocked a bit more i think, im just not comfortable doing it

You get a better idea bench comparing on games. I think most of us when we upgrade are too anxious to slap the new one in instead of taking note of game FPS before doing so though, so it's only common with those whom have done reviews.

It will be a while before you'll be able to use it's Dx12 support, but by early 2016, lots of games will have it going forward.

I had to flash the bios on my mobo as well to get the GTX 970 to work. I did this a day after release.

Yeah and by that time our GTX 970's and 980's will be under-performing I'm sure. lol

yea by 2016 another flagship will be out but that's when ill SLI this card, im quite impressed with it so far, the fan is nice and quiet, seems very stable and the clock speed on my super clock speed seems much higher then advertised (not sure that's supposed to be but it works)
