okayyy, so 1.25 was the alst limit n vbe7 ... i guess it's all limited
Can you not manually set the voltage in VBE7? (As in type it in) possibly it just won't work with your card, if you want to upload your Bios here as a zip file I will gladly have a play later for you.

right because recommending people to blindly muck around with VB7 is a good idea ...
you could change the voltage to frigging 2v in the bios it would't matter 1.25 is the max for the regulator on the output side end of story no butts about it
his card does not have any programmable voltage control 1.25 is the stock voltage for a reference r7 265 :banghead:

1.20V is the stock voltage on my 280X, in MSI AB, Trixx and others, there was a 1.25V max ceiling, similar situation to his, VBE7 did allow me to increase that, as I said, it may not work for him but it is at least worth a look, therefore your comment is not applicable to all situations , you may well be right in the case of the 265 but it won't hurt to look, he seems desperate!

There are the odd exceptions out there........

a 280x is Tahiti XTL aka 7870Ghz edition+moar boost a R7 265 is a Pitcarn aka 7850 but with higher clocks stock voltage on those is 1.138 nominal to 1.225@boost

Actually the 280X is a 7970 not a 7870 that is the 270X you are thinking of ;)

either way they are totally different chips compared to the 265 witch is lower binned and requires more voltage to sustain the same frequency

Of course they are different BUT all I said was mine also had a max voltage ceiling and in my case VBE7 helped me, again I am not suggesting it will work for him but it may be worth 5 minutes to see, as I posted in the link, there are some out there that exceed the 1.25V limit, I agree it's a long shot but I was very good with the Javelin at school :)

ok where do i upload the bios? 2nd thing, what if the card goes nuts after modded bios? do i have to again reload the bios into card using agp card? but i think wouldn't yield very much results even if voltage is unlocked somehow, not a bigass card though

@OneMoar overclocking is fun, that's what i'm doing, pushed my last 7790 to from 1075 to 1300mhz and resulted in great results, and one is not friggin too much ass pull around 2v from a gpu, education is something ...

1. thats all well and good but unless XFX changed the VRM setup on this card a bios mod is just gonna cause the card to report a higher voltage when its still only sitting at about 1.225
2. I was being sarcastic 2V is certainly do-able with hardware mods and Ln2 you would be insane to try that much voltage without sub-zero cooling..
3. these cards hit a wall at about 1100 to 1150Mhz @ 1.3V @ +20% power-limit under boost with nominal clocks being much closer to 1050...
4.if you need to ask how to recover your card when the bios mod inevitably fails then you need to no being doing it
5. you are in no position to educate anybody or tell anybody they need to get "educated" but since you know so much more about the subject then anybody else I am out good luck you are gonna need it

I really hope that he doesnt come back here griping he bricked his card because in a prev topic he had the card in the wrong slot and a incompatible card in the machine in the first place and it was causing black screens

dude not educating anyone or something, chill pill bruh, yes board is limited etc, end of discussion, and yes i know how to recover bios, did before, and last thing EASY MAN EASY :D

hahaha not at all man, it's just that the different variant of xfx did hit 1150/1550 on the core and it's benchmarks came almost near to 270x, i was just trying to do that, maybe that variant has better voltage regulators maybe ...

Well the first thing I would say is if you are now saying even if it worked, which as I have said.... is unlikely it wouldn't yield much results then why have you bothered with this thread in the first place? If the bios was able to be modded but it wouldn't hold because as OneMoar has said, it's a hardware limitation rather than a Bios limitation it shouldn't brick the card as just nothing will happen but that could be an irrelevant question anyway if the Bios cannot be modified, all I suggested was that I would take a look for you, may well be fail in any case.

If you open GPU-Z you will see an option to dump the Bios, you can save it to your desktop, in order to attach it here you will need to zip it, then attach, I will look and then probably tell you it won't work! But at least then you know that base is covered and you can go back to just enjoying the card as it is.

yep yep, got my lesson, read somewhere else too that even xfx 280x is locked at 1.25v, posted thread in order to know if i could do it any other way or not, Well, now i know it ... Enjoying the card already, thread maybe locked :)
