Ok Sarge (lol raspy voice-RedVSBlue). Just like movies ive seen ratings poor on some and i actually liked them, Some movies with a great rating and i didnt like them. basically means if its heavily opinionated i may get the game despite not such a good rating.

I am not going to bother to read through all the posts here. We have asked about this before years ago. Gamepowerup was a thing that never panned out. Get your own games and review them on your own site. Maybe w1z would be kind enough to link to some of the reviews if he is in a good mood. /thread

edit: my comment isn't addressed at anyone in particular, just throwing out what i know to the general tpu public. but yea, i would read game reviews on this site.

I, for one would like to see this come to fruition, I also want to see it start small... expand on the Gaming subforum already... what's stopping anyone from posting reviews? Create a game review thread...reap the critisism of your peers for your efforts, rinse, repeat. If enough people do it, support it, and it generates enough traffic, and the users reviewing garner enough of a following, then there would be plenty of proof for W1z to consider expanding or creating an entity like GPU again. I would love to see it revived...but while there are plenty of gamers on TPU, there isn't much for gaming chatter/support here overall. Being a tech forum that's understandable to an extent... with an entire subforum dedicated to gaming I am still surprised to see how little attention it truly gets.

I think starting there and growing that to the point it needs to become its own entity is the way to go. :toast:

I don't see why people just do this anyway. As long as [personal review] gets put into the title. Hell even do them in the [insert game name] thread and just have a post linking all the user reviews. As long as pictures get put in spoiler tags as to not kill peoples internet, and there isn't walls and walls of text, who actually cares. I often ask people who game a LOT (ford) what their opinions are on a game I'm looking at as people like that are brutally honest.

What's the worst that could happen? Someone has a differing opinion than you? Meh!

I would say nope. Any game can have its thread and people discussing it and speaking their minds, it's sufficient. What's the point anyway? People have different opinions just because someone says "This game sucks/rocks" or "haters gonna hate" won't change anything

Yes, this would be awesome. I think a possible remedy to help limit editor/author bias would be if there was a small paragraph about the author in a margin alongside the review (e.g. what genre of games they normally play and perhaps what games they regularly play and for how long). There is a tech magazine here in Australia that uses this approach for when it comes to software reviews and even some hardware reviews such as sound cards or other more subjective items.

If we do reviews, they should be modeled like legitreviews. I'm not sure what hardware is involved but they show how many and what threads are used in a game. I think that's wonderful

nice idea. No wonder how well you write whenever you are answering forum questions. So youre a author. Wow. nice man. Yes and I like the idea of how a game plays hardware related. So people has an idea of how well it will be. good luck :toast: looking forward to it man

In an official capacity, no. Anyone is welcome to do these kinds of things on their own time though. The gaming review/journalism business is a dirty one indeed.

Not really. I come here for tech news not game reviews. When a game comes out there is always a thread(and now official ones) that can be read and have the opinions of multiple users not just a single opinion of said reviewer. Much more "trustworthy" than a single voice.

Essentially, from the way RCoon explained it (and correct me if I'm wrong), if a game doesn't have an "official" thread yet, and is new, then it gets a review, and the start of the "official" thread. So in effect, that isn't the TPU official stance on the game, it's the thread starter doing a review within certain guidelines here, and then everyone else piling on into the thread after with tips, observation, experiences, and whatnot.

Really, this ends up happening anyway, but with no standards in place right now for that first person's observations/opinion.

Relatively accurate description, the only difference being that I'd like to see really well done quality reviews as opposed to just bringing a steam store review style thing to the games section, and making it more of a mess en mass. It'd be nice to encourage a lot more discussion in the games sub section without it being a completely unnavigatable area.

I do spend time in the morning hitting both the TPU forums and the NextPowerUp site. So, I get my tech forum news, and I get my gaming news, but in two different batches. I don't see a problem at all with someone ('Coon) taking the time to review a game, and post up how he feels about its gameplay, its style, the specs it ran on and how well, etc. I always enjoy reading a well-written review of a game, even if its not my genre.

I absolutely would. I would come here for my reviews and not metapoopic or other places.
Heck I might even do some myself.
I'm just tired of these people who act like they review games but all you are reading is some basic nonsense.
Most of them are too afraid top speak the truth about bad games.
Instead, what we get is some cookie cutter response, that belongs on steam or something as a basic description.

being a part of the main site is the only way something like this could survive. This isn't all about us. People browsing on google and whatever else run into this site. Solid reviews could lead to more traffic.

I'll say it again. This is a tech site not a gaming site...It gets plenty of traffic doing what it does already just fine without muddying it up. GamePowerUp was already tried and didn't do well. We have NextPowerup covering gaming news which is great.

I also would hate to think of the rabid fanboy gamer traffic polluting the forums with garbage arguments.

This is one thing I am worried about. Just seeing the quality of comments from people on IGN's fb page and that is enough to stop me from reading anything from IGN anymore let alone leaving a comment or opinion. Then again the mods on here are really good and quick to react so those kinds of people/trolls should be efficiently have their accounts eliminated.

Exactly what I am referring too. ;) But do they really need the extra work?

I will say, as much as I am for it, i truly do see your point. The reason I stayed at TPU is because its's different...more civilized. And we already do get our fair share of folks just on hardware and technical threads who are rabid, having been on other sites and think they can act like they did over there.

I guess it's worth thinking about. I have faith in our community to do this right, but didn't think of the increased hater and fanboy traffic.

I've been here nearly a decade because it's a great and well run site with a great community. I don't want to see it get muddied up with that kinda traffic :lovetpu:
