Just a small update; I cancelled my order and have ordered the sapphire version from Amazon instead as I found a deal - it is now costing me just £129!!! Amazing!

Thought I'd update post: system build began today and ended with total success as far as I can tell, except my ram is being reported as 1300 instead of 1600 in BIOS. Any tips? I will update the pics once I get my graphics card!

Upon first boot some boards go to 1333, you might have to set it to 1600

you have to set the XMP profile for 1600Mhz.

How do I change it to 1600? I found a setting for ram in the over clock section of the BIOS but bit apprehensive of changing anything in the over clock menu ... Am I looking in the wrong place? If not, is that all I hav to change or do I have to alter other settings? Sorry I'm a total noob.

Select 1600 and look at your timings/voltage on the ram itself or package

Go to the OC menu and down to Extreme Memory Profile. Since your RAM is 1600Mhz I assume it'll have a single profile.

Did exactly as yousaid and it has now shown me 1600. Should I really be changing these settings though? As my i5 is not over clock one.

Memory is independent to CPU clock. Using the XMP profile is the right way to set your RAM to 1600
.

The Intel XMP (extreme memory profile) profile is a memory feature that is installed at the memory maker's factory. In the XMP profile is all of the optimum settings for that particular RAM as determined by the people who made it.
It makes it easy for you to set all of the many possible settings for your RAM, without going through a trial and error process of your own.

Enable the XMP profile and the RAM will be auto-magically set to the best factory intended performance settings.

Is their anything else I need to do? I have windows 8.1 running and doing windows updates now. All BIOS, drivers and utilities are updated.

It's there because it basically is overclocking, anything that doesn't follow the JEDEC DDR3 standard speeds and latencies is considered overclocking. What XMP does is taking out the guesswork involved.

I have an HIS HD 7950 Boost (same as an R9 280) in my main PC and a GTX 750 Ti 2GB in a secondary PC. There is no comparison in performance between the two. The HD 7950 is much stronger.

I have a pair of R9-280X OC cards. My system "sees" one of them as a an HD-7970 and the other as a R9-280X. Both of them do well together in Crossfire.
