And marketing? Haven't seen to many ads in mainstream media for GoG. Honestly the only place I have ever seen them is people talking about it on TPU. Steam is the industry standard. Sorry chum but GoG has HUGE shoes to fill.
If you haven't read the writing on the wall, "mainstream media" is a dying breed. Social networking is the way games get attention now and nothing causes a firestorm of publicity like a big sale.

GOG's present problem is selection of newer titles. As I said previously, that's their weakness they need to improve upon. If you want GOG to stick it to the man, buy Witcher 3 on GOG and only GOG. If GOG sales of Witcher 3 are enormous and outnumber all other platforms by a wide margin, CD Projekt will be very vocal about that, AAA publishers will take note and may publish an A-AA title on GOG to see how it does. If those titles are equally as successful on GOG, a landslide will ensue.

I think a launcher would make some sort of sense, if you could add other DOS games to it too.

So what you saying is the shareholders have to agree to make a product that will not be sold on the industry standard but, on a platform they have zero control of and has zero protection to their (Even if miniscule) intellectual property. Not only to take such a gamble with this platform but to make it an EXCLUSIVE. Seems very probable. :\

The only reason Origin (BF Series, SIMS), Uplay, (Far Cry, Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed) BattleNET (WoW, Diablo) are alive is because of a exclusive games that were developed by the publisher of those products. GoG produces NOTHING. Witcher 3 isn't even a AAA title. I would give it AA at best AND its on Steam. Why in the hell would I buy it on GoG when I can just wait for a Steam sale and steam it to my living room?

I know you hate DRM but lets stay in the realm of reality. Also marketing in the mainstream is FAR from dead. Just ask Apple and Activision.

Absolutely. I've purchased games on GoG that I have already, simply to provide myself some backup, and because I appreciate their business plan. don't know that I'll go after Witcher 3, but you better believe it'll come from there if I do :)

What matters is the bottom line. If they can make more money on a DRM-free platform than they can a DRM-riddled platform, investors will insist they use the former in addition to the latter. Vote with your dollar, MailMan. ;)

I never said exclusive. They're going to go where the customers are and if there's a huge number of customers on GOG, they'll use it.

Origin started as a game updater (EA Download Manager). uPlay (Ubisoft Launcher) did too. To publish on GOG, they have to strip away all functions of said software and integrate it directly into the game (as it should be) and let GOG Galaxy or users manually update it.

Witcher 2 sold over 1.7 million copies as of two years ago. There is no "AA;" after AAA comes B. Because it is DRM free. You can install it in your living room. If its hardware is insufficient, consider this.

They advertise as much on the internet if not more.

I got into the AvP beta and the email they sent me smells strongly of recoding the multiplayer aspects of the game to use GOG servers. I didn't realize this was one of the goals of GOG Galaxy. Could it be that GOG is hoping to revive the multiplayer in old games that used GameSpy master servers and other servers that have been turned off?

I was under the impression that the AvP giveaway was just to entice people to sign up to test the GOG Galaxy client but no, they want me to play the game because apparently the Galaxy features that need testing are integrated into the game itself.

I actually support GOG whenever I can. They are getting bigger, and are not only getting more and more recent games, but also brand new releases the same time as everyone else. Legend of Grimlock II, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Dreamfall Chapters, Witcher 3 (and a very large number of the Witcher 2 sales numbers were on GOG). CD Project Red owns GOG, btw, for those unaware. And it's all DRM free.

They are having good luck with getting Publishers to sell their products on GOG.com. Including that Tyrannical beast Ubisoft, kings of DRM, with alot of titles from the last 5 to 6 years or so. Why? Because they know they will actually make sales of their intellectual property, because people will actually buy games without DRM if they are respected. So, it's more money in Ubi and other publisher's pocket to allow GOG to sell their games.

Yup, got my AvP invite as well, and I'll try to give it a whirl this weekend :). As obvious by my posting this thread to begin with, I do prefer to support GoG when possible, over Steam. I hope that they'll at least be able to keep a viable alternative, even if they'll never manage the breadth of the Steam universe.

One of the reasons people like steam is it is an "All in One Place" kinda thing, you can keep all your games in one spot, less hassle doing reinstalls etc. I don't trust steam one bit but most of my games are on their system. I personally try to diversify so if one of these companies dies, I'll still have content. Uplay is by far the most annoying.

That it does. Recently when I switched from W7 to8.1, all I did was reinstall the Steam Client, most games simply needed to be started and do their 20 second "first-run" business (I guess to have registry entries in Windows), and they were ready to go. The only ones that needed a complete reinstall were my Total War games which i had on a separate strategy game HDD with Steam Mover.
