Hi all,

I have an MSi R9 280X 3G Gaming card with Dell P2214H monitor. Mostly during games, but sometimes during OS the screen jumps. It means, that the screen jumps up ~0,5 inch and then back again for a moment. Sometimes it is very annoying when it does 3-4 times in few seconds. I have read, that monitors don't "like" speakers near by them, but the problem still occurs, when the speakers are off. I have also read, that the power supply isn't enough for the card. I have just bought a Cooler Master V550S, and I don't think it wouldn't be enough.. I installed the latest VGA driver (14.9) yesterday, and after 10 seconds test it doesn't jump. But it doesn't mean, that the problem solved, because sometimes everything is fine for hours, and begins to jump again. Has anyone a good advice to solve this issue, or can explain for me why this is happening?

Regards,
hazazs

I had that happen to my 280x as well and I didn't find an answer back then. Switching to nvidia worked though (just kidding, but it did help:laugh:). I think it's a driver thing as many people have been complaining about this forever but no one can properly explain what is happening so you'll find different "terminologies" when searching for this issue. For me it was "flickering", maybe try and search like that.

Or maybe the problem is in the monitor. For example inverter failure or something. I don't know.

I highly doubt it as this is a fairly common issue, try searching 280x screen flickering.

The screen jumps when the card changes clock states, as far as I know. My Gigabyte R9 290 doesn't seem to do so, but my 7950s and 7970 did, I believe.

You need to install msi afterburner. It has an option under general tab "Reset display mode on unofficial overclocking" you need to enable it.

I had this issue with an older 5770 and that fixed it. It basically your gpu switching power modes, like for flash videos(youtube) and such which causes flicker.

Yes, just like that.

And do I have to set the 2d/3d profile as well, or just the "Reset display mode on unofficial overclocking" feature to enable?
By the way what does "unofficial overclocking" mean? I use the MSi default factory overclock settings (1020/1500). Does it counts unofficial? Or is this a completely different thing?

You do both. Set the 2d/3d profile.
Then enable the "reset display on unofficial overclocking mode". It labeled that, but its for the screenflickering regardless. It is the same thing don't worry about the unofficial wording.

One last question. On the link I sent you shadre set the following profiles:
2D: +20%/975MHz/1400MHz/Auto
3D: +20%/1120MHz/1400MHz/Auto
My MSi card's memory clock is at 1500MHz, so is this "1400MHz" a misspell?

You just would set it to your cards own clocks which is 1500. He might have under clocked or an alternate model.

I have just arrived at home. Unfortunately the Reset display function has already set to enable. And on the profile tab there isn't any options to set 2D/3D profile. My version is 3.0.1

Yeah I install rivatuner statics server and I can set now 2D and 3D, but there are only two options:
-not assigned
-empty
how can I set individual clocks?
