Did you make sure you cleaned out the area were the fins are next to the heatsink out ?, just a thought other wise get a laptop cooler with a large fan in it.

I love the comments, really helps after a job interview that wasn't even an interview, and was falsely advertised.
So here is everything with that laptop.

Dropped the voltage a bit and the clocks to lower heat as stock would thermal shutdown almost instantly after starting a game.

I have a dual-fan cooling pad blowing onto the back of the laptop that's even PROPPED UP OFF THE TABLE AT AN ANGLE. Even took off the back panel to let air flow thru. Doesn't help much.

My room is about 24c on a normal day, so it's not too hot at all.

I'm just guessing the laptop needs to be retired or modded to all hell, I have a few modding ideas but y'know me. :love:

Maybe there is a BIOS update that I'm missing? I'm not quite sure.

YES THIS IS THE LAPTOP THAT MELTED A POWER BRICK.

EDIT: I MAY HAVE FOUND THE ISSUE.

I apologize so much right now. My sheer ignorance is shining today.

BIOS looks to be outdated though I'm not 100% sure. This was the case with my first AMD desktop that ran over 110c on the chipset.

I've looked around and some places show a more updated BIOS version. Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

The paste was dry and crusted and the fan was full of dust. Temps lowered a bit but not by a whole lot.

tl:dr hurr this laptop runs hot so lets overclock it until it dies/bursts into flames ...

Hence why I take precautions on where everything is, and where the temps are at.

I don't let the thing get above 95c and if it does, I make sure it throttles properly. The power brick sits on non-flammable materials and actually doesn't get too warm at all. The laptop isn't plugged directly into the wall. I use multiple programs to monitor temps CONSTANTLY.

Ever since I got this laptop, it's had overheating issues. I'm looking for an end to those issues.

I mentioned this earlier but again, I'm not 100% sure this is the case. I know of times where people have a bad BIOS version that causes stupidly high temps. I've never updated a BIOS before, so there is that.

If I need to mod the heatsink, then that's something completely different.

As for the moment. The laptop is running COOLER THAN FROM WHAT THE STOCK CLOCK SPEEDS AND VOLTAGES ARE.

After my desktop is up. I'm getting a new laptop. That's something I can promise.

It also was free besides the memory upgrade and screen replacement. $160 isn't bad really. I just want this thing to live as long as it can go while giving a decent performance amount. I found a really nice sweet spot in the clocks/voltages (1.8ghz@1v)

and without seeing it in-front of me and looking at it and taking measurements and reference to see what the options are for better cooling there is no advice I can give you
1. thin metal is bad
2. gaps where the heat-pipes and mount connect are also bad
3. MOAR FINS is always better
4. MOAR AIR FLOW IS ALWAYS BETTER
You are lucky it looks like you have some room to fiddle around

So then what would be your first step in modding this? Add-on more copper to the heatsink from where the fan blows air on it to where the CPU is? Mod the plastic around the fan for better airflow? Cutting a small portion of the laptop case out and placing stiff mesh there for better airflow?

you need MASS more then anything you need to get the heat away from the chip before you can add more air
honestly it looks like if you could find another heat sink you could bend you could put it next to the existing one and then solder it up with a bit of copper
I do have a idea unsure if you can execute it or not ...
there isn't much you are gonna do with the existing fins you need a heatsink preferably off the same model or .. close
since I am im a good mood and do enjoy a puzzle ...

So more copper, which sadly is easy for me to find, slapped onto the heatsink between the fan and CPU parts.

Finding the correct placement might be a bit iffy but it's worth a try.

I could give it a try. I'd need to tweak my speaker settings as I maxed for bass and everyone is asleep. Makes a child sound like a bulky man in the next room.
