Overclocking a 980 with that resolution only matters if your monitor does over 60hz, otherwise a 980 will max out anything at 1920x1200. I don't even bother with VGA overclocking, its always killed my graphics cards prematurely. By this I mean I'll still get maybe 3 years out of it, but I'd rather just have it last forever instead.

Just keep it stock.

FYI if you are seeing artifacts like white snow, black screen flicker, or flashing rainbow lines, you are killing the graphics card.

My Specs are:

i5 2500k at 3.30ghz
Antec 650w Earthwatts
GTX 980 4GB
8GB of DDR3 RAM
1928*1200 Res monitor
2TB of Hard Drive

based on those specs, is my Power supply enough?

also i got the Assassins Creed blackflag full game.

I play on full settings but Physics on low and i get anywhere between 40 and 60fps depending on the game environment.

if i put the physics on high, the frame rate goes to 20fps when i go to certain environments.

is this normal?

For that terrible unoptimized game from Shitisoft yes.

Dude you really need to watch this:

+There are a lot of people who can see the difference between high fps like 120 and 60fps, well maybe not everyone can but I sure see a pretty big difference in how smooth it looks and feels.

Skip to 5:45 for the important stuff and closely follow what he says from there.
yes I do agree with this I have seen it but overclocking his 980 by 8-12% is not worth it . The fps increase that will happen he won't see unless he is gaming at 4k with low fps to go above 30 fps.

I plan to buy i7 4790K Haswell 4.00ghz CPU.

is it a good CPU?

would that give me extra frame rate?

I'd just overclock your 2500k. You can easily do 4.5ghz. I'd only get the 4790k if you need it for other things that will use the extra threads, since current games wont really.

It's enough for two cards and your system so I would not worry (cables willing).

You have a fine system, if you want extra FPS I would overclock the 2500K up to 4.5ghz and call it a win for another couple of years. At 1080p, you will be way more than fine with your current system.

if you are not familiar with oc on the cpu then look out for auto oc with your asrock mainboard.
I know a lot of peeps don't like it but they got pretty good since sandy with not applying to much volts.

so get some info on your mobo-I just know its an asrock

You are better off keeping your 2500k and overclocking. Study up on overclocking and do it manually to avoid the overvoltage that auto can cause. My guess is you likely will be able to go quite a bit higher before extra voltage is needed.

And as I said earlier, overclocking cpu will only give you some gain. It will be there, but not alot. So going to a 4790k is mostly only going to boost your minimum frame rates.

There are guides for overclocking and specifically for an i5 that you should follow to help you out.

For 4.5ghz, the range is generally 1.3-1.35 volts so I would play around that point and check stability with a stress test program (Only if you have a decent aftermarket cooler mind you! If not we would need to know which one to tell you how far to try or you should get one).

just don't touch the power limit in MSI Afterburner, then you don't touch the voltage :)

No one can tell you that since it depends entirely on your processor. All you can do is bump up your multiplier until your machine crashes. Once you find the limit of stability, drop the multi a point or two and you'll have your answer.

If you have the cooling, I see no reason not to bump the voltage to 1.25-1.3v and see what your chip can do.

i am not happy about Nvidia and ATI or any other companies to keep making and releasing CPUs and video cards and making us to buy them.

we have to protest. we should stop buying their products so that they stop releasing products and instead they have to make a permanent solution.

I hope all of these companies go out of business.

I really want that to happen.

i am not happy about Nvidia and ATI or any other companies to keep making and releasing CPUs and video cards and making us to buy them.

we have to protest. we should stop buying their products so that they stop releasing products and instead they have to make a permanent solution.

I hope all of these companies go out of business.

I really want that to happen.

Are you serious? You must be very very new to all this. Its technology, and if you didn't know, its always advancing, and getting better every year. For companies to stay afloat in this economy they need to make products, and products that are better in everyway than the predecessors so that people will buy them. If you do not like it, you might want to find a different hobby, because nothing is going to change. Then again, you might as well just move to Mars and form a colony of some sorts under your own unrealistic desires, because pretty much everything in this world is like that.

Also, the companies are not forcing you to buy anything.

GO TAKE THE PC TO A SHOP!

you can certainly boycott them but you'll be living in the dark ages in 10 years, look if the card doesn't make you happy get a GF 770,780 or 970. and Guess what if these companies go out of business you'll be on a Tablet trying to game without any innovation (tablets are not any form of innovation). Go buy a console.

(Cant stand spoiled punks that don't want to understand anything, its like trying to speak chinese to a spanish only mexican), since this guy is a failure to understand what we are saying i think its time to have the topic locked

Why do you want them to go out of business? Their products are NEEDED to make all sorts of other things like games, movies and stuff that uses CAD etc. Without them we would be back in the 70s or 80s. Also without them the economy (as a global whole) would take an huge instant hit - big loss in many countries' GDP, job losses etc which will lead to unemployment and then this cycle continues as unemployed people can no longer afford to pay for much without benefits for too long which will then lower GDP even more and so on).

If you are so against them why did you buy a gtx 980? Also saying that we should stop buying their products on a computer hardware forum is ridiculous, especially if you want a reply that will support your argument.

I would give you a double or triple thanks if I could.
