I would say its your PSU or MB. Cant believe you get a 6 for 6 %100 dead rate from Gigabyte

Ok, so when I say slot 1 and 3 I mean it like this:

Slot 1 : x16
Slot 2: x8
Slot 3: x16
Slot 4: x8

So, when my cards were connected to slot 1 and 3, following the numbering scheme here.. That's what I mean.

The spec states the pcie x16_1 is full 16x, pcie 1x, pcie 16_2 is 4x, pcie x16_3 is full 16x, pci, pcie 16x_4 is 1x when both the x16_1 and x16_3 slots are used for gc in crossfire.

When x16_1 x16_3 x16_4 slots are used the board switches to 16,8,8 for triple crossfire.

Also, perhaps it is the motherboard that has problems. Because I had my two 280x cards in slot one and two which would make them x16 and x8 so maybe there's a problem with the x16 lanes on the board itself???? I think I've decided to RMA the board.

EDIT: The reason I say this is because they worked in slot one and two originally, as soon as I moved them to slot 1 and 3 it started doing this to me.

Look at page 1-22 and page 1-23 of your manual

I just took one of my new boards off of the shelf and took pictures of it. It is a MSI Z97 U3-Plus.
Here is a few pics, one of the front, and one of the back side.

On the front you can clearly see two X16 slots. (in the 2nd and fifth position)
Looking at the back, you see that they are ~not~ both X16, but rather one X16 and one X8 slot.

Bro his and my board are exactly the same. Yes both the tan slots are full 16x when both slots are occupied. The brown slot above the second tan slot is lower bandwidth and the bottom slot below the pci slot is lower bandwidth.

Go to the asus site and get the pdf manual for the Sabertooth 990Fx r2.0 go to page 1-22 and page 1-23

My point is that what looks like a X16 slot on any board may ~not~ be.
His SeaSonic PSU is an excellent brand and I can't conclude that his problem is with the PSU.
But the motherboard is certainly suspect.

@RealNeil I understand your need to further elaborate on what you were saying, but I am intelligent and I understood what you were saying after I witnessed the front and back to compare. Also, to be clear, what I am saying here:

1. When I first built the system with my 280x cards in crossfire (Unknowingly I placed the primary in slot 1 at X16 and the secondary in the next PCIe slot that "looked" like x16 but was really x8)
2. When the cards were in these slots they worked pretty well, even though it was x16 x8...
3. After seeing that the secondary card was getting considerably hotter, I decided to read the manual and discovered they suggested using slot 1 and slot 3 (Both of the desert colored ones)
4. I came home, switched them around and had MASSIVE problems getting it to work again, after quite a bit of troubleshooting the card was dead.
5. Perhaps after all of the troubleshooting and what not, the repeated power loss/ripple from system shutdowns the slot finally gave out on me which is why it ALWAYS kills the secondary card.

A little back tracking though, as I explained I received my first replacement for RMA which I placed in slot 3... It died... My second card, a brand new Rev 2.0 card, I placed in SLOT 1, and put the surviving Rev 1.0 in SLOT 3... The card in SLOT 1 (New Rev 2.0) died. This information discredits the possibility that the problem is the PCIe lanes. If it were, then I'd have a working Rev 2.0 card and the previously surviving card would be dead, IF it were a problem with slot 3 on the board.

well it comes down to the mobo or PSU, Id definitely see if you can get another 2.0 or 2.0 Gen3 (If they allow it). Sometimes mobos need a clear cmos to get configured properly, possibly a driver reinstall aswell. Were you able to look at the label of your psu?

Ok, looked at it and it would appear that I do not have the xm2 version. Is this really a problem?

Should I just go ahead and put an RMA in for both the Power Supply and the Motherboard? I figure it's one of the two, I don't have extra hardware to test it, so replace them both and then get the bad card RMA'd and see what happens this time.

Why would you RMA both at the same time? That will do literally nothing when learning which part was the culprit. Do one at a time, honestly, I don't think there is much wrong with your system, other than the fact you seem to THINK something is wrong, and looking at the wrong things, or trying to test stuff with your "voltage meter" which won't really help you, and putting things into your head that now you believe to be the issue.

Now if there is something truly wrong, then a summary of the issue would be nice rather than a multi-line wall of text to have to read through.

Its basic troubleshooting, there shouldnt be 3 pages of rambling.

@MxPhenom 216 While I appreciate the statement you're trying to make, you could have made it in a less "belittling" manner. You honestly can't tell me that using a MMeter won't help in ANY way, they have their purposes. Now that that is out of the way. I'll apologize for being overly thorough and a little inefficient in conveying my information. I'm dealing with a lot of stress in my personal life that interferes with my ability to be collective without being overbearing with explaining things. What makes you feel like you think there isn't much wrong with my system? Explain your reasoning for making this statement!
