UPDATE: Found a Free McBoot memory card, now I need only the PS2 Network Adapter and an IDE Hard Drive.

Found a PS2 Network Adapter. Now I need only an IDE Hard Drive.

I have an older FAT PS2. I've been playing it a lot recently and as many of us here I have to mess with everything... from overclocking my computer to rooting and adding mods to my phone and soforth. In this case, there is a way to add a hard drive to the PS2 and install games on it, loading from the drive as opposed to the disk in the optical drive. This is done with something called Free McBoot. Here's what I need...

IDE Hard Drive, 80GB or higher
PS2 Network Adapter
Any ONE of the following:
• Action Replay MAX Disk
• Codebreaker Disk - 8.1 or higher
• Swapmagic 3.6/3.8 Disk
• Memor32 card
• HDLoader/HDAdvance Disk
• A PS2 Memory card with Free McBoot already installed

The hard drive has to be QUIET above all else. I don't want to hear my PS2 grinding and clicking. The cheaper the better, so long as it's QUIET. I don't have a lot of money to play with and it don't make much sense to me to dump a lot of money on my PS2... so I really want a CHEAP drive, so long as it's quiet, and at least 80GB.

Disclaimer: I understand Free McBoot has the potential to be used for piracy. This is NOT going to be used for piracy, as I have a box full of older PS1 and PS2 games which I have been playing in my spare time. I simply want to add a hard drive to my PS2 and load up the games I own on the hard drive, so I may experience improved load times (maybe even improved in-game performance?) and extend the useful life of my console (as the PS2's optical drive will no longer be used, since all my games will be loaded on the hard drive, thus extending the useful life of the optical drive AND the life of my game disks by not using it). So this is for 100% legit improved gameplay/backup purposes, and a fun project.

I just ordered a preloaded memory card off ebay for 10$ that had the latest mcfreeboot installed. Works great but I have a slim version without a HDD so I use a external HDD

I'll have me a look, but I still need a hard drive and an adapter. Thanks for the tip!

That's not what I mean. I mean the official Sony PS2 network adapter that goes in the expansion bay. There is a space to plug an IDE hard drive directly into it.

Ahhh yea I forgot the fat PS2's didn't have a NIC card. OK yea mine only has a NIC but only USB 1.0 ports so I use HDloader with a network address

40GB... not enough. 80GB is right around what I need to install all my games on the HDD.

-ed Well I found a 120GB Maxtor for like 10 bucks. I don't see this particular model on any compatibility chart anywhere so it's a tossup on whether or not it will even work, so far. But probably the only thing left is to get the Free McBoot memory card...
