Has anyone had any experience with Intel regarding RMAs?

I had this 3770k die a few weeks ago. I tried to RMA the processor directly with the local supplier and didn't get any help. I want to try to directly set-up an RMA with Intel. Everything's complete; box, fan, manual, processor. I think Intel provides a 3 year warranty for their processors. I bought the processor September, 2012 although I can't find the receipt anymore. Is there a chance that they'll accept it without a proof of purchase?

Yes, Intel is awesome. I've only had one RMA with them, but they replaced an out-of-warranty i7-920 with no receipt where I was the second owner. IIRC I sent them the CPU only and they replaced it with a complete sealed-in-box CPU+heatsink+manual.

Yeah, Intel support is good. I contacted them about a HSF that was making a racket and they mailed me a new one even inspite of telling them I figured out what was wrong and no longer needed it.

This might be the first bad CPU I've ever heard about. Up till now, the CPU been the one part that I'd have laid money on never being broken (without a user-assisted destruction). Usually it's the owner who ends up frying a cpu. I guess it's good to hear they have a great RMA process!

First processor I've ever used to die. The board which the processor was plugged in died and it took out the processor with it. The board was an Asus Maximus V Gene, which is on it's way to Taiwan at the moment. I've been reading a lot of bad stuff about Asus RMA so I'm hoping it comes back fixed/replaced.

I've had nothing but good experiences with them. Be ready to go through their list of validations regardless of experience...not a big deal. I've only ever dealt with them twice in the last 5 years. Once for an E8500 that ran too hot and my first 4770k that was unstable. Both times were easy to deal with their support. One was over the phone the latter was live chat and email.

The day intel received my chips, the issues were verified and a replacement shipped. Took about 7 business days for a turn around including shipping. I paid for shipping to them is all.

Really one of the better mfg RMA experiences I've had.

Edit... On your purchase if you ordered online they accept scans and PDF invoices too.

That's fantastic, they really went the extra mile. Other companies should take a leaf out their book and put the customers first.

Just an update:

Intel replaced the defective unit with a brand new one. I sent an e-mail to their warranty support on October 25. I sent the defective unit to them on November 3. I got the replacement just this morning, November 8. It's the best warranty service I've ever experienced. Just to compare it with other companies that I've dealt with, I received the replacement for a defective 4870 Vapor-X from Sapphire 1 month after I shipped them the defective unite. Western Digital or Seagate usually take 2-4 weeks to replace a hard drive I send to them for replacement. The worst I've experienced so far is with Asus. I sent them the defective M5G that killed the 3770K. It's been 2 months now since the defective unit was shipped and I haven't received any replacement yet. I bought an Asus Maximus VII Gene and a 4790K to replace the dead parts and now I'm thinking that I should've tried out MSI, AsRock, or Gigabyte. But anyway, I'm very happy with the service I got from Intel and it makes me extremenly confident to purchase one of their products again in the future. :toast:
