Finding the correct placement might be a bit iffy but it's worth a try.

I could give it a try. I'd need to tweak my speaker settings as I maxed for bass and everyone is asleep. Makes a child sound like a bulky man in the next room.

What was funny was the brick was slightly deformed and the metal pins inside it were melted and detached.

So talked to @OneMoar and we figured out a plan for adding heatsinks and modding the case. I'm just waiting on getting a job.

Laptops aren't made to be overclocked, unless you don't care that it's going to die than I'd reset it to stock. Because an oc'd laptop without some physical modding will die, 99% of the time it's not an "if" but a "when".

Yeah but if hes getting 100+c without OC at completely stock settings, I think there is a bigger flaw...

My GT60, which I will admit has a bit overkill GPU cooling, runs at ~80C without a notebook cooler at stock settings. I can overclock it as much as I want, within the range of clocks I can get on stock voltages, I am always looking at sub-95c temps.

An OC is the last thing you do with bad temps.

I fail to see how working on my only working computer is a bad thing.

I DID clean it out and I DID replace the TIM as I've said in past posts.

Another thing is that at stock voltages, it would overheat worse than what I have now. So I dropped the voltage and slightly upped the clocks. If I'm playing a game then I manually drop the clocks and voltage so it won't overheat. I'll post pictures about it if it makes you happy.

You know, My dell ran 15*C cooler when I lifted the rear of the laptop by 1/2 an inch so the stupid thing could breathe. I suspect you're over thinking the problem.

Hint: It's a laptop, it's going to run toasty under load and even more so if you overclock it. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. It's almost always a matter of airflow.

and yes windows task manager is not a effective way of measuring clock speed we went over this in one of your 6 other threads about this laptop
its overheating because the cooler is in-sufficient those coolers are made to cool the cpu@stock and just BARELY keep it it from throttling you where told this before

For a real serious adventure, take the heatpipe/heatsink out.

Cut the ends off, add water tubing($20 with clamps), go to a auto parts store and buy the cheapest heater core you can ($25), submersible water pump ($12.83 http://www.thatpetplace.com/mag-dri...rTqEJZJypx_yPnwmKzh3C0Kf7jwED82zAAaAmjM8P8HAQ) and a fan.

get a bucket with a lid, fill with water, turn on pump and fan.
enjoy 40-50C maximum temps for less than $100


If you wanted to be really fancy, you could put quick disconnects and some small valves on the tubing to leave the heatpipe full of water when you disconnect, at idle and surfing the net I bet it would transfer enough heat to keep it cool.

Too bad he can't take the heatsink/fan off a dead GPU and mod it for the laptop... those things are awesome for cooling

I like that water cooling idea, i was actually thinking of a water cooled laptop which could dock with an additional radiator loop for extra cooling.

I might give that cut heatpipe method a try with my lappy when i get my new rig up and running.

So my desktop with a FX-6300 died out due to the board.
I have money and so why not upgrade?

The asterisks are the new parts. I have the board but I'm missing the cooler and CPU. My Intel friend didn't get back to me so no 4790k for $175. :c
