As I recall, AssCreed has a tendency to run pretty terribly due to poor porting onto PC CPUs. I imagine we'll have similar issues like the Boston level all over again. Who knows, Ubi might fix this one.

This is probably the biggest Windows title so far to go 64-bit only (excluding early access stuff anyway).

Judging by the GPU min requirements, I take it that it requires DirectX 11.2.

I really need to upgrade. :(

Surely if this were even reasonably accurate, the minimum specs alone would preclude a huge slice of gamers from purchasing the product, for example....... 64bit OS only, AMD users @ 8 core @ 4ghz and GTX680 or HD7970 minimum, between that lot I could only guess that half of all the gamers out there wouldn't bother!

Some 90% of gamers have 64-bit so that's not a problem. The rest, look at the specs of the XB1 and PS4. These kinds of specs will quickly become the new normal over the next few years.

Agreed and 1 TB HDD is soon to be too small for gaming as well for people who like keeping their game library in storage. 50 GB requirements is getting pretty normal. CoD: Advanced Warfare is requiring 55 GB. I think that may be the new max. Not sure.

Yeah, I suspect GTA 5 is going to be a monster. I meant I think Advanced Warfare may be the max HDD req for now.

I played (tried to play) Assassin's Creed 1 and I'm done with it. The camera was frustratingly balky and pulled me out of immersion too many times. Maybe the later ones are better. I don't know.

@AsRock Locked at 30 FPS sounds like another Ubislop consolitis PC game to me.

Those specs for a game that runs on a xbone and potatostation 4?
Developers are deliberately nerfing pc ports so that it looks on par or worse with the console versions to make them look better. The reason they do crappy ports is they can't be bothered investing time and money because consoles are their main cash cow.

There are awesome exceptions like the guys behind Alien:Isolation. That game looked crazy amazing. I know it was very indoor with smaller corridors, but those are really musch harder to be presented as "nice" compared to lets say pretty jungle in Crysis or Assassin's Creed. The game looked epic with one of the most amazing light coronas, lens flares, volumetric fog with passing through light, envioronmental lighting, sharp textures, heat haze distortions and it just looked friggin amazing. And it runs wicked fast on a 3 generations old graphic card (i have a HD7950 which is clocked to around HD7970 speed). It was silky smooth (apart from video sequences but those have some sort of bug going on). Anyway, that's how you make a port (was it?). Because when it runs so well and looks so damn nice and you can't tell it if it was made for PC specifically or it was ported, then it was done right.

@RejZoR: It may be a really good example of how to make a PC game because The Creative Assembly has always been a PC first company, porting some games over to console. Of course, they are also famous for putting out a product that needs 72 patches within the first week!

After the trailers I've seen of AC Rogue recently, I'm not expecting this to look anywhere near as good as the trailers released of Unity. Especially considering what they did to Watch Dogs and what's been said of The Division as well.

Ubisoft was also a very respected "PC first" company and where that got them now...

I think those minimum specs are overhyped. They just want to attract people to spread the information and talk about the game before release...

I do wish companies would publish with their system requirements what their goals were with establishing said system requirements. For example, they could easily say Minimum Requirements (lowest settings, 1920x1080, 30+ fps): blah blah blah. Without giving those basic details, "minimum" isn't defined. They should do the same for recommended but aim for something like medium settings and 60+ fps. What they give us now is like a sheet full of math without any units giving you context to what it means.

So what do you guys and gals think??

That's the sad graphics card history, if you don't upgrade every 6 months they become obsolete.

Sometimes I look at my PS3 and think if I should play games on it or still upgrade cards every 6 months if I want to run new games properly.

I think it's a scare tactic from developers to push people to thinking if they don't buy high end cards in order to play the games on the PC that they'll turn to the console versions.

Serisouly, think about it. What game from a console should require the power of a GTX 780 and a high end CPU from AMD or Intel? I call BS.

The only real reason a console port would need high end parts to run the game as well as the console version is due to the developers not porting the game properly to the PC.

Thankfully I feel Assissan's Creed games are played out and not worth my time anymore. I grew tired of the constant setbacks in the story just to keep things going - it's almost like watching a TV show where the group goes off to tackle a problem and have to split up midway through the episode only to have half the group captured and "almost" killed. Then the next episode the other group has to find a magical way to save the first group....YEAH! First group is saved. Next episode the "no-name" characters of the group die, but they complete the task they set out to do 2 episodes ago. Next episode another problem comes up and group sets out to tackle the problem....the group splits up and the other team gets caught this time. Next episode the group that was caught - someone was injured and almost died by the time they were rescued, but they were saved! Yeah! Next episode they complete the task they set out to do.....rinse and repeat again and again and again.

Anyway, I call BS at the requirements and Ubisoft should shove it up their backside for pulling this crap.

Serisouly, think about it. What game from a console should require the power of a GTX 780 and a high end CPU from AMD or Intel? I call BS.
"Should?" That's entirely up to the developer. "Could?" Virtually all open world 3D games. The designers always want more detail; the engine guys have to dial it back due to hardware constraints. Ubisoft knows most of their immediate revenue comes from consoles ($50-60/sale) and most of their long-term revenue comes from PC ($30 and down on sales). This actually makes perfect sense. They spend less money optimizing the PC version and as average hardware creeps up, they get more players and thus, more revenue. It is win-win for them. The only lose point is that they're going to get a lot of support tickets and complaints. This could become the new normal for AAA titles (think Crysis--it can still make modern GPUs croak at times). Their targeting high end graphics out of the starting gate so that the game will still stay graphically relevant for years to come. Additionally, the engine is tuned for this kind of heavy handed hardware so when they release a game 5-10 years down the road on the same engine, it won't appear behind the times because they built it with the bar set high (again, see Crysis).

The fact Rockstar still hasn't released minimum specs for GTA5 I think strongly suggests Rockstar has done the same as Ubisoft. They both made an engine for the current generation of consoles and shot for the stars for PC.

also the specs the op posted are complete bullshit based on rumor

But still I'm not believing anything that ubisoft says anymore. The bottom line is they make terribly optimized games and I expect AC Unitty to be terribly optimized just as watch dogs was. I have really high hopes for The Division but still it's Ubisoft we are talking about so I wont get my hopes up.

Besides I am currently getting completely stoked about GTA, even if it's going to come out next year.

I'm unimpressed.

You can have the drive train to a geo metro attached to a jet engine, and travel at 70 mph. You can have the drive train from a modern sports car attached to a 4 cylinder engine and run at 70 mph. The end result is traveling at 70 mph, but demonstrating that poor design and optimization yield stupid results.

Ubisoft has made Assassin's Creed a series based upon gimicks and increasing standards that don't yield to a better experience. With the exception of pirates, the games all look about as bland as one another. Whenever they've developed an assassin game about assassination (read: Dishonored) I'll take a look. Otherwise, it's just interesting to see how much Ubisoft believes increasing PC requirements can bouy a poor port.
