Guys, I need your thoughts on the Exo Survival co-op. All my Steam friends practically have the game and I'm trying to decide whether I should get it or not.

If it has a zombies mode later on (which I hear comes with the Season Pass), I'll probably get it.

So $90 for the full game?

I can get it for around $50 including the Season Pass in my region (Southeast Asia).

Game seems optimized well for GPU power, but needs a ton of RAM (not VRAM). I had to go 8 GB -> 12 GB for it to run stable.

Experienced some NVIDIA driver crashes, which I assume are fixed with the new NV driver.
I had driver crashes too. Played an hour or so last night, mostly glitch free.

I had no issues with driver crashs when i played, though when closed the game it didn't seem to close and stayed running in the background for what ever reason.

Remember to turn your polling rate down on your mouse to 125Hz. Game isn't bad though it's rather easy.

Yea its mouse sensitivity slide was crap, turned it down a ton, still to jumpy fast when turning, hit slider 1 notch more went from bit to fast to bit to slow.

It was def more stable game then ghosts was that seemed to Hard lock my machine randomly.

I heard its good if you like COD and its better than the last few, other than that it probably wont turn a person like me who requires substance in video games.

My mate was going to buy it because well frankly all his other friends are getting it but stopped because the season pass is the same price as the game here and pretty much once the DLC map packs are out you severely limit yourself by not having the new maps. Also was a bit bummed at full price for a 6 ish hour game, said he doesn't want another Destiny.

I guess I will skip this one again... maybe on steam super cheap sale for the SP only... It ain't worth more... IMHO they should separate SP from MP.

It's terminally dull tbh. What's more is except for a very rare exception the SP is more linear than you could possibly imagine and I'm not just talking about the level design (or lack of it). It's bad enough despite the lovely vistas, you can't go anywhere but the fact you have your hand held on every level. Here are some examples:

Blow that door
Plant that generic explosive
follow me
follow me
follow me

I suppose I knew what I was buying but giving very few chances to explore is just criminal. One of the few examples is the stealth mission at the 'secret meeting' at 'Spaceys' mansion.

I know folk will like it but it lacks so much substance and the MP running and gunning is just too brain dead for me. I'll persevere for now - I did spend money on it after all.

Meh, started playing it last night and I think I'm about to start the final mission now.

This game is definitely a recipe for the common love/hate affair. It has some good concepts and fun gameplay, but some glaring flaws. Lets start with the good so this doesn't appear all rant.

Pros
1. Graphics (lighting balance) are better than I'd anticipated. Gameplay trailers don't do it justice.
2. There's some great new weapons, esp the grenades.
3. Exo suit adds fun elements for navigation, and melee.
4. Grapple is cool, and love doing stealth kills with it.
5. Levels are pretty well designed and the hover vehicles fun.
6. Great voice acting and fairly good story overall.
7. Your squad AI don't clean up for you if you slack. You have to be on your toes.

Cons
1. Out of sync load scenes, FPS drops, and hitching here and there (Manhunt mission). Seems to get worse over time.
2. Checkpoints can get corrupted causing crashing, AI miscues, and audio dropouts.
3. Changing settings to bench is a PITA! Every time it restarts the game and makes you wait through a lengthy load scene.
4. To exit game you have to start the next mission and wait through it's lengthy load scene, unless you're in the middle of one.
5. Exo abilities are preselected for you on each mission.
6. Gameplay is full of very scripted, cinematic, linear moments, some of which are utterly ridiculous ("boat" scene).
7. NV sucks, I usually use a target enhancer weapon in darkness instead.
8. The lighting is a bit unbalanced (too dark at times, too bright and hazy at times).
9. Upgrades are in some ways too arcade biased in their point issuing system. I want to focus on flank risk and objectives, not where and how I kill each enemy. That said, I don't mind at all having intel be one of the criteria, at least that gives it a purpose, but the squad and coms AI tend to rush you through, making you feel frustrated when looking for it.

I can't agree more with W1zzard that there is def something up with optimization regarding RAM. I don't think my GPU is the problem. It says I'm using 2596MB of it, and I've even tried the "Optimal" settings and Windowed Borderless and various combinations and cvar tweaks, none of which helped.

Mostly in game it plays well. I got a bit of hitching in places in Manhunt, but after restarting the game and choosing that mission via mission select, it played a lot smoother. That level def has some frame dips and hitching though. With "Optimal" settings I can get 75-130 FPS in a lot of levels, but there it commonly dips under 50 FPS. I only mentioned the FPS for a comparison. It's the hitching in that level more than the FPS that bothers me.

It's common that when I first start the game the load scene for the level I'm on will play flawlessly, and these scenes are well done and very lifelike. After just one mission though, the next mission's load scene will usually play very out of sync, and it really takes you out of the immersion. Given what it takes just to exit game and restart a mission to see the scene in sync, I usually just trudge on.

Now I'm sure Manhunt's issues come down to level complexity, AI activity, and maybe some overlooked optimizations, but the out of sync load scenes seems to be a general memory leak thing throughout the game. It's entirely possible that Manhunt is partly affected by it too though, because as I said, starting that level fresh made it run a LOT smoother.

I think some of it though is no doubt that PC games are getting increasingly larger texture files and PCs have yet to utilize unified memory, which can cause hitching and frame drops when big texture files are loaded in and out of memory, which I'm sure is happening when shaders are preloading during load scenes. I can't wait until 2016. This game played on a high end Pascal GPU might not have such problems.

I just finished the game and am now wondering if Unity will have even worse technical problems with all those detailed textures to load.

Very nice write up on your game experience. Very detailed, thanks. Although I myself have found no out of sync issues yet, as you did.
I wonder why? Let me go back in and look closer for that kind of thing, I'll be back.

but it's better than what we've been getting from a COD game

It's a completely custom built engine this time around. While there are very few existing pieces of the old crappy engine left, the audio, animation and physics are completely new from the ground up. I assume this is why the graphics are better (but still crappy in comparison), and why there are slight bugs with hardware. Not surprising NVidia made a new driver for it if there are new systems in place. They need to stop customising and cannibalising the old engine this much though. Either licence a better engine or build a new one. It's going to be the one thing that holds them back in terms of fidelity.

If it's not your settings, and I doubt it is unless you're using less than the recommended (optimal), because I use optimal and still get it, I'd be willing to bet it's your having 16GB RAM.

I'm seeing more and more people noticing that this game is a RAM hog, and the longer you play, the more likely you'll have some kind of performance issue if you only have 8GB RAM. Only, pffft, remember when 8GB was overkill not long ago?

I am SO looking forward to unified memory for PC!

Final mission has a pretty awful bug:

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare – Cant Slide in Last Mission Bug
It is a game bug, you just run at the gate, and then when it tells you to slide, HOLD the key down while still running.

Well, any work arounds? I found it online so it's not just me.

Terribly coded game. Cutscene sound syncing is way off, need to run in borderless window to get it to run mostly okay. But this final level 'can't slide' bug takes the cake.

EDIT:
That I had to google my way past the bug to complete the game.... I can uninstall SP now I hope, will play MP when I'm feeling more enthusiastic.

I do have graphics set optimal.
I pulled out 8GB of ram and guess what I just found? A little stuttering here and there, seems a bit choppy at times... not real bad, but it wasn't there before. This happened in SP at the point of entering the town in China??? as I was tossing grenades and in intense battle, lots of stuff going on at the time.
I have to say, I myself think the graphics are awesome.
Now I am going to reinstall back to 16GB and try it again.

Ok, back to no problems with the 16GB re-installed. Strange?
Yes, I do remember when 8GB was almost unheard of, only the major players used so much ram.
Now I am running this on a Win 8.1 machine,
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the way Windows 8 itself deals with ram?
I see that you are running Windows 7?
I also have a machine with Win 10 Tech Preview installed. I'd like to try the game there but it would be meaningless as that is a lesser machine. Not apples to apples.

Ok, I just tried something else.
I updated my Nvidia drivers to the latest version WHQL.
Seems I was 2 versions behind.
Then I took out the 8GB and ran the game.
No stutter now at all.
I'm going to run with 8GB all day and check this out real good.

LOL, I had that happen too with the slide thing. The odd part was I managed to get under it the first try, don't know how, but it wasn't really a slide. More of a slow moving crouch. I failed to stay with him though so had to retry.

Every attempt after that I couldn't get under the door no matter what. It was infuriating. I'd stayed up late the night before and saved the ending for the next day and this happens. It was bad enough the night before when I had no audio and Gideon not doing what he was supposed to to get to that part, because the checkpoint where you drop into the water was corrupted.

Then I noticed it said "hold" crouch, and I realized I only had toggle crouch bound. The weird thing is, I rebound C to hold vs toggle crouch, and I then successfully slid, but the prompt said "hold crouch unbound". LOL

They seriously need to patch this game for memory leaks, save corruption, stuttering/out of sync cutscenes, and control binding/prompt issues. EG the intro videos that play when a new mission is loading. The video and audio will play smoothly, but the sound is very out of sync with talking animations. If you didn't check specifically for that, we're not really on the same page here.

@ Raw,
No it's not just an OS or driver thing. If it were it wouldn't have played worse when you took the RAM out before even updating drivers. It clearly plays better the first mission of a session and gets increasingly worse. That combined with using tons of RAM, and fluctuating wildly in how much RAM is used, is a def sign of memory leaks.

The problem I'm referring to though is load scene sync problems, not stutter in game. Many have complained of cutscene stutter, but I only see load scene sync issues. EG the intro videos that play when a new mission is loading. The video and audio will play smoothly, but the audio is very out of sync with the talking animations. If you didn't check for that specifically, we're not on the same page here.

I noticed the poll now is leaning heavily toward what I voted for, (Meh,...I dunno). I'm sure that sentiment will change if they release an adequate patch, because the game other than the tech problems is really pretty good. It also feels longer than the aforementioned 6 hr campaign to me.

Well, I played the game for hours today at 8GB as I said I would. I do notice the load scene intro problem and it does become more noticeable the more times it runs. . And I see stutter during game play, not a lot, not bad at all really, but it was there.
Definitely much better going back to 16GB this evening. But now that I am really looking it is there with 16GB also, just not as bad. But no stutter in game at all at 16.
The thing that bothers me the most is having to wait for the load scenes just to get back in to a game......sheesh!

And I'm sure were you to study it some more you'd find the "Manhunt" mission stutters the most, but not nearly as badly if you restart the game and play it as the first mission of your session.

Yeah the waiting sucks, but what we're waiting for is not the scenes to play but rather the level's shaders to preload to avoid even worse stutter in game. It would take an uber rig to play on max settings without preloading or stutter.

You can actually disable the load scenes by making a blank text file and naming it same as the bik file with the bik extension, but you still have to wait for the shaders to preload. It helps to do that with the seoul_load.bik file though, because it speeds up the game's initial startup.

I think the only reason you're getting a bit of stutter even with 16GB RAM is your GPU only has 2GB VRAM.
Cant stop laughing.
What was even funnier to me is when one of them says how they have the best gear when the Atlas guys first appear, and there they are wearing beanies instead of Kevlar helmets.

You trolling? I'll play along...

I run a single 780ti at 2560*1440, so not far off you at all. With vsync off it ran at over 90fps with fluctuating GPU usage, usually 70-90%.
But the games not coded well so instead I run in a bordeless window with vsync on and only use 60-70% gpu .

Unless you want 120 fps you only need one card.

Your specs say you already have 2 GTX 780Ti cards and your monitor is a 1600p @60 Hz so any FPS over 60 is wasted. You've already got a GPU setup that is overkill for this game on your monitor. Why go for SLI Titans?

still downloading the game... most likely I'll be playing it by 2morrow since the game file size is quite large (40GB++)... Updated my graphics driver to Nvidia's proprietary Game Ready driver specifically for this game. With 8GB of RAM, I think the game will run just fine on my system.

I think dual GTX780 Ti is more than enough to run the game comfortably at max settings since they're tuned towards speed over VRAM. No need for those fancy Titans unless your budget has no limit.

Yea, I think you are right about all of this.
It's not worth it to me to grab a newer video card just yet with more VRAM on board. I mean so far to date, the 670's I own have run great. But I will get one eventually, ...as I always do.
