Hello guys.

I have as a motherboard the new Asus Maximus VII Impact Z97, and i notice that VRM section of the motherboard is very hot both idle and when i play games.

My 4790K is running stock 4.4 ghz with voltages that goes from 1.26 volts to maximum 1.28 volts.

I know voltages are pretty high but this CPU is stock and it comes out of the box without any extra setting from me.

If you put a finger on the VRM can not keep it, you should immediately remove it because you risk to cook your finger.

I know that generally speaking the VRM section stand several degrees but this way my motherboard will have less lifespan. And i dont have any fan directed to VRM because of the custom watercooled setup. But i still have the intake 120mm fan and 92mm fan as exahaust in my case.

Here some screenshot. You dont see the GPU because currently is under my maintenance so the CPU waterblock is alone in the system

Thank you for any help or tipps.

Yes, VRMs can take a lot more heat than most other components, far beyond 100 degrees (Like up to 130?). if you're concerned, just ensure there is some sort of airflow across the VRMs. Beyond that, not a lot else can be done. If they're running like that at stock, and you're confident your PC isn't a hotbox, then I'd imagine your motherboard will last as long as it was designed to.

That's very odd..Haswell VRMs getting hot.I pulled the sink off of mine.
I have the M7Gene.My VRMS stay covered in eraser
I do have a Panaflo 38mm laying on top of the RAM and pointed towards the VRMs though..and am running a Pentium right now.

It's a bug. His CPU would either combust instantaneously or just flat out fail and never turn on again. Probably worth trying another HW monitor program.

Thank you guys for the replys.

I think that if there is no solution to have cooler VRM's i would rather put little 5cm or 4 cm fans directed to the VRM board it may help to not reach 130 degress in summer time.

Thanks again for the help !

And yes i know HWmonitor sucks a little bit but is just to give an idea that CPU is not overheating.

no bugs in the software, it's reporting v-Input. Which is why the board VRM runs a bit hot. normal values are 1.7-1.85V.

However, your CPU running 1.3V at stock concerns me.

Thank you cadaveca.

Can i lower that value to have more cooler VRM or that will affect the overall performance of the system ? What is responable to do that V-input ?

Yes i see often 1.29 volts at stock. Sometimes is lower when idleing.

you need to go into the bios and adjust the voltage then 1.3 is extremely high for stock
also if you are using the "cpu level up" I would disable it

In fact voltages never reaches Beyond 1.29

In this motheboard almost all functionality that are in the infamous AI suite from Asus are in the BIOS so you dont neet anymore to install it in O.S.

I hate using cpu level up, is not abilitated in the BIOS i use only XMP.

If not i get worse memory control like cas 11 ecc...

Can i try to lower the Core voltage to 1.25 V ?

I would drop it all the way to 1.150 for stock

OK, so, enabling XMP does in fact boost multis up, so that explains why the CPU voltage is so high.

What I would do is clear CMOS, then go into bios immediately after, and note the values for vcore, v-input, cache, etc. Then, manually set those values in BIOS, after enabling XMP. Also set multis to "per core", rather than "all cores", and adjust each multi independently according to the table here:

http://www.intel.com/support/processors/corei7/sb/CS-032279.htm

Click the "4th gen Intel COre I7 processors" line to expand and show default multipliers.
