BSOD while updating bios.

Hi, i was receiving BSOD so someone told me to update the bios, and while i was doing the update, i got a blue screen and now my computer doesn't works anymore, it starts but the monitor says check cable connection, what can i do ?

You don't have a socketed BIOS, is the board new enough to be covered under the 1-year warranty? Sounds like you may have just fried your mainboard.

Some boards have a Bios Flashback feature that can be used with a USB flash drive and a specific USB port. I know my Asus boards do, and I thought some AsRock boards did as well.

A lockup or loss of power in the middle of a Bios flash = dead board.

You can try to reflash, but at this point I think you might be screwed.

M'yeah, maybe dead. Some boards have backup BIOSs in the event the main one becomes corrupted. Unsure for the 970 boards though.

Email 'em first, see what they say. They may be able to offer you an option to flash a BIOS through some voodoo USB measures.

There's risk in and out of Windows...but I agree, if you're recieving BSODs while in OS...you shouldn't be flashing your BIOS in OS. But sometimes that lesson needs to be learned the hard way or maybe you didn't have a chance to review all of your options, and many opt for the OS flash because it's the easiest method for those without experience.

I still prefer the flash drive utility method. Out of OS, and I've had far far far fewer incidents. Though I must admit I've used the Asus Windows utility several times in the past year with excellent results, but that was on a perceived stable Windows OS.

@bL1nd3R Contact ASRock support, explain to them what happened and see if they have another method as RCoon suggested or maybe a possible RMA. They might tell you that you're SOL too. Good luck!

I was just looking on the boards site and if the flash went bad the owner need to send the board back in for service.

Thats to bad it happened but lesson for next time, never flash in windows.. @Kursah ya gota love the Asus flash back usb on the rear I/O :rockout:

I solved the problem, i created a bootale usb with bios update and pressed f6 and it installed bios successfully. Ty for helping.

Did this, also, solve the original bsod problem?

No BSOD till now, if i will receive more bsod i will let u know.
And the BSOD was occuring in random moments.

If the machine is ocd run it at stock. Set the rams xmp profile and see if it bsods still. Btw can you tell us what the bsod is?
