Hello guys,i'm wondering if my PSU can handle a GTX 770,this is what i currently have in my system:

-CPU - i5 4690K @ 4.2 Ghz
-1x WD HDD 500GB
-4GB of DDR3 Ram
-No optical drive
-Asus GTX 560 Ti DirectCu II Top @ 1000/4500
- 4x Case fans for cooling
-Asrock H87 Performance Mobo

I've been running the GTX 560 Ti Overclocked with no problems on this PSU but i'm not sure about the 770 though.I'd really appreciate your answer. Thanks ! :D (btw this PSU is cancelled atm,i bought it 4 yrs ago with 60-70$)

Here's a PIC with the PSU's Voltages/Rails:

you should be fine. High Power used to make PSUs for OCZ (or they 'were' OCZ) and OCZ PSUs were quite good

It's not 80PLUS certified, and it uses Sirtec as an OEM (Same as Rosewill FWIW). Dual rail clocking at 438W on the 12V is OK. Certainly I think it would run it. Would it be a wise decision considering the cost of your hardware? Most definitely not.

You've got a Devil's Canyon i5 K and you're getting a 770. Don't cheap out now, get a decent 80PLUS certified PSU.

I agree w @RCoon , your current PSU will run the 770, but it would be a good idea to replace it with a more efficient and reliable PSU, like a Corsair, XFX, Seasonic, Antec, or another brand name known for quality PSUs.

Yea well, took me a while to save the money for that CPU/MOBO/RAM/Cooler as i've changed my platform but i'm almost broke atm so what i could do is to buy a new PSU and get the GPU later(later meaning 3-4 months+ or get the GPU now within 2 months max),but if the GPU will work on this PSU i won't change it untill i'll get some other hardware such as an SSD and some more RAM,then i'd go for a new PSU.
All i wanted to know is that the 770 will work on this PSU,and as you guys said that it will then i'm really happy about that :D

EDIT:Indeed you're totally right about that but i'll get a
Corsair NEW VS Series VS650 soon enough after the GPU then :)

Yeah, just make sure when you install the 770, try to use power connector from each 12v rail, if your PSU has them marked some kind of way to show that

Hey, just realized that no one asked this, does your current PSU have both a 6 pin and 8 pin power connection for the video card?

This. Although it's quite easy, because the PSU only has 2 6pin connectors anyway!

then it will not work with the GTX 770, the 770 requires a 8 and 6 pin power connections

from TPUs review of the GTX 770-

Nope the PSU has 2x 6 Pin power connectors.I know that the GTX 770 needs 1x 6 pin and 1x 8 pin power connector. Can't i use 2x Molex to 8 pin for that?

Oh boy... we're delving deeper into awkward territory here. Yes you could use adapters. Should you? ... mmmmm. I know it's been said there's no real issue with it. Just makes me feel uncomfortable personally.

Or i could use a 6 pin to 8 pin PCIE instead if the Molex connectors have different rails.
Yea well i gotta do it anyway since i don't wanna wait 4 more months to get the new GPU ^^

Judging by the fact the R9 295x2 completely craps all over PCI-E Power recommendations and still works, I'd say you're probably safe doing so.

The only thing I would advise is get a new PSU as soon as you have the money for it. I wouldn't wait until you had money for SSD and RAM and then get a PSU.

Yup that's what i'll do and i think that i'll get a 970 instead of a 770 which consumes less power 230 vs 145W.

Well, if you're using the monitor in your specs 1440 x 900 at 75 Hz then a GTX 970 is overkill but it would leave you room for a monitor upgrade on down the road if you wanted too.

The 970 actually seems to hit a TDP wall at 180-200w. It should still fit within that PSU though. As long as it isn't too old it's the same basic build as mine and mine can power an i7 and overclocked 280x.

Benchmark Scores well I've fried a 775' P4 12 years ago, that counts?
this is the principal problem for many people starting a build, the most important part for a good build its always a certified PSU,

personally I don’t trust those molex converters for Video cards, I would upgrade my PSU First, a way better to all PC components, considering you have a nice one,
Also the fact that a 970 consumes less power than a 770 would be another reason for getting a decent PSU, as your hardare is getting more and better you should try to take care for it for example…

There are many accessible ones for your build, take a watch:

· $42.99 Corsair CX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026

· $49.99 Thermaltake Smart 550W: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153172

· $49.99 EVGA 500W: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438012

· $53.99 Thermaltake TR2 500W: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153216

· $54.99 Corsair CX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027

I have been using thermaltake products for more than 8 years without any problem or issue, PSU's Coolers and cases, owned at least 5 TR Series, 3 TR2 Series, 1 TR2 RX and 1 SmartPower, they worked ultrafine for me since 1st day of use till the last day, and also none of them have died o stop working, I've changed them due computer upgrade or sold with computer parts,

currently saving money to get: Thermaltake Toughpower 750W GOLD Or Toughpower DPS 750W:D
