AMD with two solutions for running 4K, nVidia has one. I assume nVidia will make a single slot dual GPU card soon with enough ram for 4K textures and improve three card SLI efficiency.
nVidia researching super sampling so lower resolutions look better as opposed researching maximizing throughput and ram sizes for 4K
When Apple tested available chips to push 5K on the iMac there was no contest

I will say nVidia is probably smarter going for the mass market. 4K will not make them any more money for a while.
Living where I do may skew my views a bit. I can see the Tesla plant from my bedroom window.

GhostRyder, what is hard to run? My twin 290x's have been trouble free aside from some Windows and in game scaling - but that is not the cards.

I jumped the gun, got the Acer G-Sync 4K monitor for $679.99, no tax and free shipping from Tiger Direct!

I can't wait to finally try 4K for the first time!

A few titles, Crysis 3 is the first to mind but I don't play it anymore.

Was on 1024 x 768 for most of my life,
Then 1600 x 900 for few years around 5-7 years
Then just recently 2 yrs ago gaming at 1080 ... i must say woOW...
Now when i change back my gaming to 1024x768, i feel so bad looking at the picture.
It will be a while before moving to 4k, waiting for a single GPU card to beat the 4k resolution... or the price of 4K GPU n monitor become attractive.

I've been gaming at 2560 x 1600 now for 5 years and it still blows my mind all the time. I cant always crank it... but even then it still looks dam good and crisp. Some of you folks probably have the power to run 4k but give this resolution a go first at 30+ inches. Its something.

I just recently moved to 1440p with the ROG Swift and it's like night and day when compared to my old 1080p monitors which I've had for about 3 years now.

I can't wait to try 4K, if the jump to 2160p is anything like the jump from 1080p to 1440p was, i'm in for a dozy, especially with G-Sync enabled :rockout:

Benchmark Scores I dont have time for that.
I just made the move from 1080p (Samsung 27inch) to 1080p (BenQ 24inch with G-Sync) lol. 4k a bit to rich for my blood, plus I really hate that currently a single GPU can't handle it acceptability, I abandoned multiple GPU set ups from the issue's I've had in the past. So I'll gladly wait, I'm a very patient man.

I honestly just moved to dual 1080s im good for a bit.

I'd like a 4k monitor, for productivity, but also for games. Especially stuff like War Thunder and the RTS games i play should be way more awesome with four times the resolution, since 4k in those cases really gives me more to work with.
However they need to come down in price some more before I'm buying one, and preferably support more than 60 Hz (and have variable refresh tech). Also optimally OLED based! (one can dream :p) The tech is already here, but I guess quite a lot needs to happen before prices get a bit more mainstream.

4k is very hard on your hardware and requires time, much overclocking and money. The fundamentals of PC gaming :) But if I were to do it again, I'd buy the Swift monitor. I'd imagine the 1440P doesn't like bad and Nvidia has their stuff with G-Sync. I need stronger cards now so I can run Dragon Age better

But you have dual 290s, I haven't tried dragon age yet, but I wasn't aware it required that much power, you think EA made a poor job porting that game, or is better crossfire 4K support something AMD is working for with a new driver release?

Well, with the details cranked, DAI is extreme demanding. Then 4K adds to that demand. I think I'd be okay with some aftermarket ones, which I will get if I didn't get sli 970s. And then mantle is apparently not working properly either. This game need lots of patch work. But in terms of visuals, I've never seen a RPG like this.

I have been wanting to replace my 1080p projector in the living room to 4k for a couple of years but it is still too cost prohibitive. Once that is taken care of I will certainly be looking into a 4k monitor, but I think my trigger point will be 30"-32" with an IPS panel and gsync for $800 or less. Maybe by the time that happens we will get another couple of GPU generations to handle 4K on a single card a little better. Though I'm a little unhopeful seeing that the industry wants to keep cranking out the 28 inchers.

All the reasons why I wouldn't move to 4K are already mentioned, but in all honesty I would be more interested in an AMOLED monitor or some similar panel type with really good looking blacks. Sometimes my monitor makes my cry, because my phone shows much better blacks. I love deep blacks.

I have to agree about the blacks, I play in a fairly dark room and my "blacks" are a very dark grey.

I don't plan to move to a 4k monitor any time soon. I'll wait until there's a single gpu card strong enough to run games on that resolution on high settings and for monitor prices to come down. I think I'll go 1440p or 1600p or one of those ultra wide monitors because I'm starting to see the prices go down here. :)

just make sure its a 10bit 4k version, not 8bit like most out now as they do not meet the new standard... imo...

Who is moving to 4K?
I will move to 4K only if they make 20-22" 4K monitor. If they make 27"+ only then I won't...

I do not need such a big monitor on my desk. :shadedshu:
