9400gt HDMI not working

I have a computer here with a 9400gt whose purpose is to simply carry video and audio over to a TV. It will not work with HDMI. Here's what I know from testing:

•The TV and HDMI port on the TV work fine (I also tried another TV)
•The HDMI cable works
•The video card works, at least well enough to display an image over VGA and DVI...
•...But the HDMI port does not work, nor does plugging in a DVI to HDMI adapter (What the hell? I really thought that would at least work for video...)

Do you know what Spec the HDMI is? Possibly out of spec? That said my old laptop with an 8400M works fine with a DVI to HDMI adapter and is HDCP compliant.

+1 to INSTG8R, I suggest getting something from the flea market in Ohio. May be a GT520=GT610. You should be able to find it pretty cheap- 20-25 bucks may be? May be less. I don't know. But it will bring you the latest HDMI- specification.

DHCP has been around even before HDMI was released. I doubt HDCP is an issue. It could be an HDMI incompatibility thing, but that sounds weird too. If it's not detected at all, it's clear that DDC connection isn't getting established as digital displays require DDC and EDID to function unlike VGA which could revert to generic VGA settings.

Please visually inspect the HDMI port on the GPU. A single bent connector can prevent it from working and the HDMI connector is rather fragile. Improperly inserting an HDMI cable such as at an angle can harm an HDMI port. I know, it's happened to me before.

But why then does my DVI to HDMI adapter not work? I know both the DVI port and the adapter work...

So DVI works on a monitor so I bet HDMI to DVI on the monitor would as well. The TV might require a newer version of HDCP than the GPU can do. Could you tell us a little bit about the TV you're using this on and which 9400 GT you have?

Not sure about the one TV or the 9400GT (other than it's a Gigabyte model), but the other TV that I tried is a Memorex MLT1921 (which works fine with my Radeon 5870 and HDMI).

The TV I tried hooking it up to is an older Sceptre model. It's going to be used, hopefully, with a SEIKI SE24FE01-W TV in the end.

True I have HDCP on my older 8600gt 512megs ddr3

Cable itself ccould work on dvd player but not on computer. I had that problem but not anymore since i changed the cable.

Is the input source properly set on the screen to the HDMI cable's signal?

If the screen's not looking for signal in the right place, it will not work.

What driver are you using? Is there a place to enable HDMI output in the driver software?

We tested the cable with a ps3. I can try another just in case.

There is only one HDMI input on either TV, and there is no other option related to whether it's a PC or what.

Using whatever the latest Nvidia drivers are/were a few days ago. Not sure about an HDMI option in the drivers but I can check again anyway.
