loud clicking, slow boot.

So, just recently I got a loud clicking and VERY slow boot. But once my PC is up and running it runs as fast as always. Very quick load times and very responsive. but boot has slowed to 5-6 minutes from <1 minute. I have SSD as primary and a 4670k with a ASUS Z87 mobo. I have never encountered this problem and have no idea what it could be besides the power supply, but I am still at a loss.

Try disconnecting your WD HDD. It may be that failing.

Clicking Normally means a hd. Those wd greens Tend to be unreliable

The 1.5TB ones or all greens in general? I have a 1TB green with over 38,000 hours on it and it's still rock solid. Not even a single reallocated sector (although one event is funny without any moved sectors).

all greens in general. the idle timer on those drives is so low that in a lot of scenarios, they wear themselves out with excessive head parking super fast. my two WD greens in my NAS went over their warrantied parking limits within a week of use - they're pretty much only good for USB storage drives.

Wd nor seagate have provided tools to fix the APM on green or sshd units. Makes me want to get a Enterprise Drive from HGST, Seagate or a Raptor and sell off the sshd.

@MT Alex recently had the same problem. His mechanical drive was failing making boot super slow. Replaced it and now its fast as it should be.

WD have a Firmware update that allow you to stop head-parking or adjust the timers.

For some it didnt fix, only solution then was to sell the drive off and get a non green model

Best solution for Green Drives is get a Red drive.
Seriously, it's basically a Green with better controller and firmware, and without the excessive head parking issue. Although, they did put mistakenly put out a small 3 month batch at the beginning of the year that had the Greens head parking problem.
