I have washed a samsung cruzer before... Worked fine after I pulled it out of the dryer because I heard it clanking around.

By design, because there is no power going through them and no mechanical parts, flash based devices are very water resistant as long as you let it dry properly before connecting them to power.

When I moved into my house I was digging in the back yard and found a NES cartridge. It looked like it had been there for years in the rain and snow. It works perfectly. The same technology behind NES cartridges are behind USB flash drives.

Interesting... Do you think it will continue working if I immerse it in water while POWERED ON!?

I'll do that, just want some opinions. Thanks!

Well, I did the tests underwater and it PASSED! o_O

I connected my USB drive to an USB cable and put it in a cup of water and it worked normally. I did a md5sum check and wrote a file to the USB drive.

The only abnormal thing I noticed is the performance seemed to be a bit worse than normal and the drive connector was a bit black (toasted!?). But it is still working!

Between you and @Lightbulbie , this forum has become pretty ballsy, and perhaps a bit more nutty. I like it.

Let me just point out that you run the risk of shorting out the USB controller on your motherboard by putting the connector into water. It is only 5V and normally the water would present enough resistance to prevent shorting out, but if it were unusually salty (conductive), your MoBo could be in serious trouble.

I thought on the possibility of losing my entire motherboard before doing this and perhaps something worse, as always. The important is that I was ready for that.

Fortunately, it didn't happen!
