Hey everyone, I am working on a friend's Dell Lattitude E5530 and the original complaint was that the power button didn't work.
What I have found is that it wont turn on unless the keyboard is removed from it. Originally I thought it was the power button so I replaced that and when that didn't help, I replaced the keyboard but it is still wouldn't turn on. It even works if the keyboard's ribbon cable is connected and I hold the keyboard up off the computer's frame but when i pop it into place and screw it in, it wont turn on until I remove the keyboard again. If I hold the keyboard off the frame and turn it on the keyboard and everything works perfectly fine and if I install the keyboard with the computer on already, it still works fine but then if I shut it down and try to turn it back on, no dice.
I am assuming it is a short of some kind so my next idea was to put some sort of non-conductive material under the keyboard to hopefully stop the short but I have no idea what to do. Very frustrated here and have already put $70 in parts and lots of time into it so just wondering if you guys had ever heard of such a thing. Thanks in advance for your help.
