It might have been a bad RAM stick, that RAM shouldn't have any problems on your system otherwise.

It follows Intel's recommended 1.5V. If it was 1.65V it might (emphasis on might) have some problems: https://communities.intel.com/message/202197

Sounds like you're boot looping- this is/was a common issue with GB Z68 boards.

More info here:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1034724/gigabyte-p67-z68-boot-cycling-problem

The GB Z68 board I had gave me boot looping issues but only with an i5-2320 cpu installed in it, it never happened when it had an i3-2100 or an i5-2500k in it and type/model of ram didn't seem to affect the issue either.

You just bought the boot-loopingest motherboard if ever there was a motherboard.
That thing's gonna boot -loop @ least 3x before every "good" start..
..no matter what you put in it.
it's Giga-z68.It is going to Boot-Loop

I might be mistaken, but that i3 will only support ddr3-1333/1600.
That's true. But wouldn't it work with higher clocked RAM?

That worked with older processors, I do not know now. Things have changed a lot...

I would try the 1600MHz model, get an ordinary 1600MHz stick or get an advanced model that is known to work.

I might be mistaken, but that i3 will only support ddr3-1333/1600. So, unless OP goes in BIOS and sets the 1866 lower, its not going to work. BRB, checking Intel site.

Edit: http://ark.intel.com/products/65693/Intel-Core-i3-3220-Processor-3M-Cache-3_30-GHz
I'm pretty sure if a lower-grade Pentium will do 2200+ Mhz on the RAM ...That's not an issue.

As I suspected. You could always set the RAM lower in the BIOS couldn't you, instead of selling it?

Kinda weird...
I make some changes on my cousin computer.... like PSU, GPU and Ram...on a gigabyte Z68X mobo... Kingston HyperX Furry 1866 2x4GB... intel i5 2500K.... currently running @4.5GHz... Watercooled...
Also i sold my DDR3 - Viper 3 Intel® Extreme Masters Memory, used on my Z68X Mobo because i was needing some money to upgrade my cooler, so replaced patriot memory with Cheap Kingston memory .....but never had a problem with that memory, i think you should change memory frecuency at bios and try it out, set it to 1333 / 1600 to see if it works....but test both frecuencies... Firts of all 1600 and then if it fails... try 1333....
Regards,

Here its something Curious about your procesor dude:

You should be able to make it run slower, by trying to set it at 1600 in the BIOS, and see how it does. That would put it within your cpu specification.

You can alter the memory multiplier at BIOS. That's how it is called on mine.

Go to memory or clocks in BIOS settings and you will find it.
