GRiD Controller Issues

I'm kind of frustrated atm...this is the first game that won't detect my Playstation 2 controller with SmartJoy Pro USB adapter....I've used it for years, and I was interested in GRiD...snagged it and am limited to my keyboard. I read that the new 1.10 patch was supposed to have fixed that for some, others say go into the User/Documents/Codemaster/Grid/System Hardware/hardware_settings_config.xml and edit a line for detecting gamepad, auto or whatnot...well that line is not in my xml....I dunno what's up, even if I run in XP SP2 compatability mode nothing changes...I may try to take the game back and get something else. The game looks good...but as any racing game would is crap with a keyboard as a controller.

I have searched around and found some had no issues at all...others could never get it to work...dunno but I'm pretty dissapointed at the moment. I would get an Xbox360 controller...but I don't see the point in spending that money really, I have like 10 backup PS2 controllers from over the years, and I like them better overall for personal preference (aside from the triggers which are way better).

Anyone else have a similar issue with a possible solution? I may try to contact Codemasters and see what's going on.

Mine's the standard Playstation 2 Dualshock controller...I just use a SmartJoy Plus USB adapter so I can use it on my PC for gaming, I use it mostly for racing games, and for those it's really nice to have.

I'm kinda bummed that GRID turned out to be so much of a pain to work with...I wish I could force detection of my PS2 controller (it is detected by the system as a SmartJoy Pad...nice thing I've found about this setup, I've never needed to calibrate anything...just plug it in, and go).

I went into Game to get an xbox controller and all the other controllers were like £10 cheaper !

I have a ps2 dual shock controller with an unknown usb plug converter, it works with grid.. and most of the games I play. Maybe you should try adding the line you found to enable detection on the xml config file? I dunno man, but that was the things suggested on the CM:Grid forums.

I broke down and bought a 360 controller and it works very well with Grid. I suggest that controller.

I added that line that the readme for the patch recommended, it finally took and I am able to use my PS2 controller...took way too much messing around that it should've. GRID isn't bad, if it didn't have good graphics, it'd really have nothing special going for it...kind of feals like Burnout mixed with NFS imo. Has fast pacing, looks great, definately arcade on the feel...but is a lot more fun now with a controller! This has to be the worst game I've played in years for setting up my PS2 controller though....that's a huge shame.

I am just not a huge fan of Xbox controllers...I'll use em here and there, but for personal preference...I have about 10 years of Playstation styled controller experience...it just works better for me. Not dogging the Xbox controllers by any means, just not for me.

Glad to hear that you have it fixed, yup grid is arcadish in play not more of the simulation part. all in all a great game to play fun indeed

I use a Micro pad for the xbox360 made by madcatz its great alot smaller than the standard pads feel very light and comfortable.

I'm having the same problem as you, and i'm about to throw my pc out window..

I'm not sure what line I should be adding in the config.xml, are you able to show me yours?

I'm using the same controller as you.

Give that a shot, make sure you've patched the game as the 1.1 patch helped out, once I did that patch and edited my file which this quickfix seems to make easier, the gamepad worked out okay. Couldn't use it for menus, just while in the car mostly, but it did work quite well when racing. I haven't played much after I got the controller working ironically..the game is okay, more pretty than it is good imo, I may return to it later on tho.

x360ce is what i used to use when playing grid on my ps2 pads.

All i can say is i got sick and tired of messing with 3rd party crap that i decided to just buy a logitech f310 and a xbox 360 pad.

Cant remember if the pad worked in menues and as its been a long time but the pad does work in game ok with x360ce.
