Season's greetings everyone!

It's the silly season and I thought I'd host a giveaway to give a little something back the community here at TPU that has given us all so much over the years.

ENTRIES HAVE CLOSED AND PRIZES DRAWN! Thanks everyone!

What's on offer?

Steam Keys:

1x Borderlands 2
1x Sid Meier's Civilization V
1x Tropico Trilogy
1x Europa Universalis III Complete
1x F.E.A.R 3
1x Warhammer 40 000 Dawn of War II
1x Grand Theft Auto IV

UPlay Keys:

1x Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon

Other Keys:

1x Thief (Kindly donated by @kenkickr! Thank you!)

****All keys SHOULD be region free, but I cannot guarantee that they are****

How do I enter?

***Since Xmas has come and gone, I will remove the requirement of having to write a story (but of course you can still post one if you want to). Just post saying which game(s) you would like to be entered for.***

Entry is simple; just post a short story of your favorite gaming memory or computer-related gift from the holiday season and which games you'd like to go into the draw for. Yes, that's right, entries for multiple games allowed.

For anyone here that does not celebrate Christmas, please still feel free to join, just leave a story regarding a gaming/computing related memory from another special or significant day/holiday of the year (or perhaps your earliest memory of either theme).

Example:

It was Christmas Eve many years ago and the excitement was building for tomorrow, but the day's activity was limited and time was passing slowly. So my siblings and I got out the old Sega Master system and played Astrix and the Secret Mission into the late hours of the evening with nothing but the glow of the old CRT TV and the Xmas tree lights illuminating the room.

I'd like to be entered for:

Grand Theft Auto 4
Far Cry 3
Tropico

I know it may be a bit of a chore to enter, but it helps us all get in the spirit ;).

What are the rules?

  • Must have been a TPU member on or before December 1st of this year (2014).
  • If you already own the game, please DO NOT enter the draw for that game.
  • Members names will be drawn using random.org list randomizer or similar.
  • To give other members a chance, once a member wins a game key, his/her name will be removed from all other draws (if multiple entries).
  • Winners will be contacted via PM and listed in the thread.

When will it be drawn?

I'm aiming for December 31st (AEST), but may end earlier if entries slow or I foresee myself becoming very busy. There will be a reminder/warning if draw is brought forward.

Good Luck and Happy Holidays! :toast:

Great giveaway Naito, thanks.

Many, many moons ago my friend was getting an Amiga 600 computer for Christmas which his parents bought in late November of that year. He found out where they had stored it (unwrapped). For the whole of that December, every time his parents went out, we would go through the ritual of unboxing it, setting it up, playing on it for as long as we dared and then boxing it all back up immaculately as if it had never been touched . We actually got away with it right up until he received it on Xmas day :) To this day it still makes me chuckle when I hear anything about the old Amigas.

I'd like to be entered for:

Sid Meier's Civilization V
Tropico Trilogy
F.E.A.R 3
Warhammer 40 000 Dawn of War II
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon
Thief

Hello,

First of all thanks for the giveaway. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Also Happy new year.

My winter season memories are all related to PSP as that is the only device i got in December (rest were way before or way after). PSP is a epic device, I remember sitting in quilt and playing it all day. Awesome stuff.

Don't want to enter for any game, have a huge backlog to go through.

All the best to everyone else. Merry Christmas and Happy new year.

Ah the PSP. That brings back fond memories of playing Need for Speed and being amazed at the level of graphics from a handheld device.

Entering for Borderlands 2

I used to be one of the main admin for a MW4 league, MechWarrioirLeague. So needless to say, when I played in the public servers, I was normally targeted by most everyone. I didn't mind that as it caused me to become really really good at the game. So one night, while playing in the public servers, I was having what I considered a normal night when I noticed someone started to cuss me in the in-game chat. So I asked "what did I do?". Keep in mind, I generally tried to keep a friendly image with the other players of MW4 because of who I was at MWL. This player went on to say, and I quote-

Damn it Barbaric, I'm going to throw my damn monitor out of a window. One way or another, I'm going to see your mech blow up

Turns out the player had been coming after me for about 10 minutes, and each time I killed him/her. The funniest/most insulting part (depending on your point of view) was that I never even noticed the person was actually going after me. I sat in spawn for the last 5 minutes of the game literally laughing.

don't really have any "holiday gaming" stories as I always bought my own hardware/games.The only hardware bought for me was my first computer, but that was a birthday gift (July)

My foundest gaming memory was receiving the Chronicles of Riddick from a friend for Christmas. I was going through a divorce at the time and being that money was tight for anything and my wallet focus was on my daughter. I totally didn't expect this from a friend and that one gift made my Christmas...besides spending time with my daughter obviously.

Well I have a memory that's related exactly to Christmas. I bought my first PC on December 20th in 2004 and for that Christmas since I didn't know how to use the PC properly I only played the games that came with the system. One of those games was the Need for Speed Underground. Since then it has become my Christmas tradition to play NFS Underground from Christmas to the 30-31st and on new years eve I install Hitman Contract's and play thru the night.

I'd like to be entered for:

Borderlands 2
Sid Meier's Civilization V
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon

Merry Christmas to everyone and Naito thanks for this awesome giveaway.

I need only F.E.A.R. 3

I remember how I got my first powerful PC in 2005. That was a really good time. I played FEAR and FARCRY a lot. The funny thing is I've never even heard of those games before the girl I loved and even swore that someday I would marry told me about them. I never really knew why it didn't work out between us. Now I can only measure the nostalgia.

Hmm.... My gaming memory is fairly recent. It would have to be when I was playing BF3 and on one map. I was sitting *pinging* the enemy AA gun. So it would be *dink* and then I'd see A STORM OF BULLETS FLYING AT ME. They'd stop, I'd ping, and they'd shoot again. This happened until I was out of ammo and decided to run off while the guy in the AA gun was blowing up the chat with insults.

Another memory was a few days ago, when a friend of mine and I were playing Portal 2. With us, it's basically a fury of yelling and insults until we figure out the map. He seems to love flinging me into the water...

Thanks for sharing that story; just reading about that kind gesture from your friend made me feel all warm and fuzzy.:D It goes to show that even the smallest gesture or surprise can mean a lot in rough times.

Well I have a memory that's related exactly to Christmas. I bought my first PC on December 20th in 2004 and for that Christmas since I didn't know how to use the PC properly I only played the games that came with the system. Since then it has become my Christmas tradition to play NFS Underground from Christmas to the 30-31st and on new years eve I install Hitman Contract's and play thru the night.

Nothing like holiday season hardware! :) Need for Speed Underground. I have played that over and over on PS2, Xbox, and PC.... just couldn't get enough. I seem to recall that difficulty in races towards the end of the game ramped up as such that you pretty much needed a perfect race (no hitting walls, traffic, etc) to win. Also rubberbanding AI.... It's such a shame EA can't seem to get their heads together and make a good, proper NFS these days.

I remember how I got my first powerful PC in 2005. That was a really good time. I played FEAR and FARCRY a lot. The funny thing is I've never even heard of those games before the girl I loved and even swore that someday I would marry told me about them. I never really knew why it didn't work out between us. Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Nothing like reminiscing on past rigs and the many hours spend chewing away at the latest games at the time. Thanks for entering!

Naito, many thanks for the give away! Happy Holidays to you and your family!!

I think the best memory I have of Christmas and games, has to go way back to the release of the Atari's. We were after our parents for one and promising everything to get one. We knew where our parents hid all the gifts but sure enough there was no Atari anywhere, although we found a pair of bb guns me and the middle brother were getting. Xmas day arrives we were excited to find what else we got but were a little bummed because we knew there was no Atari. After we finished unwrapping everything and cleaned up the trash for xmas breakfast, my dad looked out on the porch and was like what is out there. He made a pretty big production out of it and we got curious and went over to see what he was looking at. Sure enough there was this huge box like the size of the stove huge out there. We struggled but drug it in the house to see who it is for and who it came from. Only thing on it was a tag that said for the boys. We tore into it and there was another box, we pulled that one out kept unwrapping. Long story shortened my dad had re boxed the Atari 7 times and pulled an awesome prank on us. We were so excited when we opened that last box and saw the Atari and if you imagine 3 little boys screaming omg for getting something they really really wanted. We played the heck out of that thing and all the games we could get our hands. The webbing between my thumb and index still hurts thinking back about those long gaming marathons we had.

Thanks again for the give away

Please enter me for the Warhammer 40 000 Dawn of War II thanks

Haha excellent story! Thanks for sharing it and entering! Atari was a bit before my time, but in regards to sore thumbs, Nintendo 64 thumbsticks took the title for me. Hours spent playing Mario Kart 64 and Smash Bros. lead to very raw blisters.

Good luck!

a few days ago, when ALL I wanted for Christmas was the BRAND new intelevision, I remember the amazment, and shock and awe of firing that beauty up, grabbing hold of the Phone pad like controller Slipping in the "burgertime" personalized controller cover, and spending what SEEMED like an eternity playing a game that I will forever be nostalgic for, till my last day's. Merry Christmas ALL, and I hope You all have your own enjoyable experiences....

Yeah, had to look it up too. Thought it may have been something like the Vectrex.

Great gifts, kind actions, merry Christmas to all TPU members!

If I would choose, I would say Thief is my favourite.
