Windows wants to update my Intel graphics.

So, I've had various Intel CPU's with integrated graphics and since I always use a discrete card, I've always switched it off in the bios. Currently, with this system I have done the same. However, even though the adapter doesn't show in the device manager, and there are no other inclinations that that the device is enabled, Windows wants to update the driver for it.

I've never seen this happen before and am wondering if anyone else has gotten this.

I havent seen this on any Intel hd system i have had.

Is it suggesting any other updates ?

I have a desktop and a laptop with Intel integrated graphics and discrete GPUs and neither has tried to download updates for the integrated GPU.

I also have it disabled. Never had Windows ask to update it. Did you accidently reset your bios to defaults? I DID do that once and the second I rebooted it asked me to update the GPU on the Intel. Either way you can just hide the update in Windows updater and it will never ask you again.

It probably has other hardware that is related to the intel chipset that needs to be updated and windows has it mislabeled. It does this to me from time to time and I just let it install and never had any issues.

The option in the BIOS only disabled the iGPU if there is a discrete card. If you have ever, even just once, booted the system without a discrete card then Windows would have downloaded and installed the driver and it will ask you to update the driver even if it isn't currently being used.

I've seen Windows ask to update drivers for hardware that was on a previous motherboard months after the motherboard had been swapped out. Which is one of the reasons I always recommend a fresh install after a motherboard swap.

I think you're on to something. I've never booted the system without the 7970 in it, but I did update my bios the other day. Apprehensively, I did it through Windows (MSI wanted me to for some reason due to the gap in bios versions? yeah, whatever) and I didn't think about it, but I'm pretty sure this popped up after the bios flash. I would assume that during the flash, the bios reverted to a stock state, Windows picked up the iGPU, then the bios settings reverted back to where I had them once the flash was complete.
