Will people adapt to using 42" Computer monitors from 2 feet ?

So this is a question I always wondered.
Seems like every few years, the standard for close viewing computer monitors is getting larger.
People now consider 27" to be the minimum...

So, in 5 years, will people be using 50" computer monitors ? Say they have 6K resolution ...

That questions either human brain adaptability, or modern marketing techniques and social conditioning... I don't know.....

Haha, they will have to shrink that pixels to fit on 20-30" screen or decrease resolution because it is an absurd. Too big for a "work" screen.

They won't sell to me unless they shrink that to fit 20-30" display, otherwise they won't see my money.

There comes a point when the monitor is so large that you have to move your head to see it all. That will be the maximum. For me, that is 30". Anything bigger than that and I have to move my head to focus on parts of the monitor and using it for extended periods of time hurts my neck.

When did that happen.
Most people use a 24" monitor @ 1080p.
In the corporate world I believe many still use 19'' @ 1366x768 or 21" @ 1600x900 or @1080p
I dont know anybody that has anything bigger than 24" monitor.
TV's are different because you dont watch them from that close.

The standard keeps getting larger but our eyes and bodies are not changing to adapt to screen sizes as quickly as their size increases.

Likely VR will take the lead before really large screens.

i am fine with a 32" 1080p TV as my screen and it's directly on my livingroom table let say at 35-40cm from me, when i am on my desk i use a 24" 1080p but i intend to get either a 27"-28" 1440 or a 29" 21/9 2560x1080 waiting for a snapdeal at my retailer/etailer xD

i don't feel 4k as really useful for a PC atm ... (or in the future years)

No. My body does not have to adapt just for them to sell new things.

It is better they make things that are already comfortable for my body or they will not sell. LOL, that is a crazy thought.

Doubtful, most gamers still prefer small monitors in the range of 20-28inches and that probably will stay the same even if resolution increases dramatically. Reasons monitors sizes have gone up compared to the past is because the price of increased size monitors was extreme up until the last 7 years roughly where gamers have now gotten a wider variety of options more suitable to their budgets and preferences. Essentially some people like to and will play on very large monitors/T.V.'s up to 50+ inches but generally if a screen is to big from a short distance its not only bad for your eyes its also harder to play on because you have to look around a lot.

So I do not think we will ever hit a point where a 42inch is the normal gaming monitor for the majority of users. I don't think I will ever do anything bigger than 28inches and even that is a bit big for my taste.

My main monitor is a 30" 2560*1600 model, and I don't want anything bigger. Higher resolution maybe, but not bigger.

I use my 46" TV and love it, but I have a little stand that my keyboard and mouse are on, and other than that sit about 5 feet away to game and watch TV from my chair, or sit about 15 feet away on the couch or recliner to watch movies or TV shows, have a universal remote that runs it too.

I have a 20.1 inch 1680x1050 monitor and I think this is about as big as I go. I'm good with a 19" or even a 17" wide. I had a bigger monitor at one time, either 22 or 24 I don't remember, but it honestly did feel a little too large... for my uses anyway. If I was doing some sort of work related productivity stuff I'm sure I would want a bigger monitor... but for gaming I actually like a smaller monitor.

I think 27" would be the max for me. I once tried to use a 32" HDTV as a monitor an it was pretty tiring.

No issues using my 40" display at that range. Been doing it like this for a couple years, and the only thing I would want to change is adding more resolution to the same space.

I sit a foot away from my 32-something inch tv, along with my other monitors and I'm comfy. Anything bigger and I might bash my head into it, or bake it.

A 32" touch panel would do. As for regular displays: I've been using 22-23" for over 6 years now. The reason they become popular is because they are getting cheaper. First time I paid more for 23" LCD screen than for the rest of my rig. Now I picked up a 22" LED screen with 1080p res. for a little over $100...
Larger screens for regular "desktop-y" use are seen just about as often as they were 6-7 years ago, from what I have seen.

I have a 32" screen at work (not by choice). It's higher resolution than my old monitor, so I keep it just for that, but I find I have to take breaks often otherwise I start feeling like I'm going crosseyed. I keep asking coworkers if they'd like to trade monitors. They think I'm joking.

I use a 23" monitor at home. I'd like something a little bigger, but I probably wouldn't go over 27". I'd like something with the same pixel pitch as my current monitor (102 ppi), which means I'd probably be hopping on the 27" 1440p bandwagon (109 ppi).

For games, not good because you often see less at aspect ratio 16:10. For work, yes.
