This is probably has to be as simple as it gets, however i am having major difficulties.
I have a desktop computer running Windows 8.1 & a Laptop Computer running also Windows 8.1
What i need is a LAN between the two of them.

The lan would be required to play games and file transfer. I have partially managed to get the file transfer to work, using this guide: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/30365-42-desktop-wired-router-laptop-wireless
However the actual lan does not work. I can not get any games playing. Maybe because i have automatic ip address on both computers?
When ever i made lan parties at the house,i set everybody's computers with a specific IP.So when i am in game,i just open console type :Connect IP and i am in game.
Can i make LAN with automatic IP? And if so,how to do so?

Another issue is how to integrate My Printer into this LAN?
I have a printer that i have it connected to my desktop. The printer does not have a network card on it. So no it is not ethernet capable. It's an old model, connecting only via USB 2.0
I want to be able to access the printer from my laptop.

Install the printer onto the desktop, and right click and share it across your network with a share name etc. It should then show up in network devices on the laptop.

This does nothing for me.I have no share option on the right-click menu as you can see.

Also.I have did much research. Apparently for best internet connection it is better to leave the IP on automatic. The router some how works better this way. Is this true ?
I believe if i put the IP to manual many problems would be solved. What do you think ?

Right click > Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing

And yeah, automatic is usually best, the router will deal with IP address how it sees best. Just do an IP Config in CMD to see what IP you're sitting on at the time.

I did set up the home group. And now,i still don't have the share function, but when i try to print something from laptop. It works.
Also Racon ,you're idea was good to run cmd IPconfig to see the IP i have.
I guess you can call this solved!
