Question About Drivers

I am getting my Samsung 850 Pro tomorrow and I have decided to reinstall Windows 8 (and then update to Windows 8.1) on the new 850 Pro.

I was thinking with Windows being so inclusive nowadays, do I actually need to manually install any drivers other than the latest nVidia driver?

ok heres this, if You are putting windows on the new drive, YES you need everything, which is as follows

Windows, Lan driver, Windows Updates, Chipset Driver, Video Driver, Sound Driver, Other Drivers needed.

Windows, THEN chipset! Then whatever you hearts desire. Chipset is the key then if its an Intel rig the Intel management engine then whatever.

I was going to ask; every time I do a Windows install I always wonder which should go first, Windows update or chipset and display drivers? Is there any reason? Thanks.

For me in that order its saved headaches. However id set windows not to automatically download any drivers or updates.

Yep, I never let Windows do it's updates until I have all my drivers installed. As long as you've got the latest manufacturer drivers, windows will then not try to overwrite them. My order though is Windows, Chipset, LAN, any SATA/AHCI that motherboard recommends, USB 3 and then graphics driver. Then I let updates do it's thing.

In 99% Windows 8.1/10 has built in lan/wifi signed drivers (most of the time they're not the latest ones but still new) and in 100% it always offers graphics driver via windows update. It never has ahci/Intel ME/acpi and all that stuff (and windows update never finds them) so they had to be installed manually.

For laptop users Windows Update always finds latest touchpad/fingerprint sensor but never finds card reader drivers.

This is exactly what I do as well.

*I install sound driver before the graphics driver.

Hey guys, I just decided to keep my current Windows installation on my current SSD. I plugged my new SSD into an unused SATA 3.0 slot and plugged the SATA power connector into it and my BIOS is not noticing it and Windows is not noticing it. It only notices the SSD that Windows is showing up on?

Double post, but I fixed the problem.

First, I simply chose another SATA 3.0 slot and it magically showed up in the BIOS.

When I got into Windows, Windows did not show the new drive. So, I went into the Disk Management and had to partition the new drive to GPT and then I made a new simple volume formatted to NTFS. For a 512 GB advertised SSD, I will get 476 GB according to Windows.
