Looking at 500gigs SSD's

I am thinking about buying a 500gb ssd for all games i got installed, to replace my 250gb Samsung 840 EVO but i dunno if i should go with an EVO again if so if it should be 840 or 850 series or if i should try another brand like Plextor which i also heard good things about.

here is some specs of the 3 ssd's i been looking at also at Crucial MX100 512gb it's priced at 234USD/199euros but i really really dunno.

I dunno if I should take the 840 EVO and call it a day or go 850 EVO to get 3D V-NAND chips and 5years or go even higher and buy the Plextor to get more cache?

Go with the 840 EVO, RAPID mode will make up for the lower cache size. The IOPS on the 840 are better than the 850.

I know the Rapid mode haven't really used it on my 250gb 840 EVO... (I see Racoon training :laugh:

that's just a vote, no real reason, i know Samsung have said a lot of great things about the 3D V-NAND's but in real life dunno if it will be as good as the 840 EVO...

I also like to have new hardware not only mb and cpu but still when it comes to SSD's i want someting good, and Intel is just overpriced so no.

A real reason you can have only after you/other tested the product in real life for a long enough time, but for a new(relative) product, you must read on what others say, remember the quality/history of brand and look at new specs, you compare this with old tech and see which one it have most advantages for you...

To be honest I would get what's the cheapest per GB for SSD for games. Seeing as you mentioned the MX100 is 199 in (i assume) denmark. Look into ordering SSD from amazon.de. I know to Netherlands shipping is free if its above 30 euros and they have Transcend SSD370 for €177. It has synchronous MLC and offers decent performance. I have the MX100 as a boot drive and I am more than happy with it, i also have SP S70 and Kingston V200+ and except benchmarks to be honest I dont feel any difference between the 3

Id say the warranty on the 850 wins it as they are all quite equal in performance and perceivable as the same in use, close on price and rapid mode helped my new 500gig 840 evo chug along a bit quicker.

No, although it might not stop the drive being any good.

For example i have 3 of 6 of my 250GB WDKS drives from 2006 and still use those along with a PSU from same time although that should be replaced.

All so a PC&Power 750W i have fallen back on as a back up as i expect my new SS750 was failing.

Some time shit don't need upgrading for example i have 2 Intel 2gen (SATA2) of the 1st ones they made and they do just as good as the new ones which are on SATA3. Sure you notice in benchmarks and crap like that but in the real world they still perform just as good.

Which is my point also. If OP can get that SSD370 i posted for €70 less than that 850 EVO imho he should do it since he wont notice any real word performance difference. Also chances are in 3 - 5 years 512GB or larger ssd can be had for that price which while they 850 evo may perform just as good in everyday world, these will be new drives, new technology and 0% wear

Rapid mode is like swap space in reverse. It doesnt impact real world performance and hogs ram. Honestly a M500 or Mx100 as your game drive with a 840/850 as your os.
