Hello. I have a problem. I'm getting a electrical noise from my graphic card when the computer is idle, ONLY after I played games. However, as soon as I turn on game the sound goes away. When I turn it off ( game ), after around 3 minutes or so the sound comes back. Then that noise is gone after 5 second ( few seconds ).
And yes i am sure that is from graphic card, because i stressed pc with Prime95 and i dont hear that noise after stopping test.

Card is Asus Strix 980
Psu is Corsair 750 RM
Cpu is 4790K
Mobo is Sabertooth Z79 Mark 2

Here is the link with the same noise what is coming from my graphic card.
I know on link here is PSU but my graphic card making the same noise not during games but after quitting games. When noise started then is gone always after few seconds.

Something is shorting in there.

If you cant RMA it then either yourself, or someone more knowledgeable that yourself needs to remove it and take it apart. I certainly wouldnt be comfortable using it anymore.

I suspect that the noise is there when you are gaming but your fans spinning up is then masking the noise.

I cant claim to have a great deal of knowledge but that is not a healthy sound.

Cant say ive checked specifically but i thought Prime 85 only tested CPU
try Furmark or maybe not, your GPU might go bang.

I just checked by running Prime 95 and it didnt affect my GPU load at all or GPU temps

I think you misread that bit. OP used P95 to test just the CPU and the noise is not there, leading them to feel the noise was in the GPU since it wasn't in use and the noise was gone.

@ OP, I have two guesses that I would check first. Make sure the card is seated properly. Some cases will cause the card to flex and pull out of the slot, and is why more boards these days have the PCI-e locks at the far end. Also pull the power leads from the PSU and the card and examine them, make sure there isn't a pin pushed back in the clips that could cause noise like that as the power tried to jump from the PSU lead to the power of the card or PSU.

Should i be worried? That electrical noise is always when i stop playing game , on idle. When noise started, then it stops after 2-3 seconds. And then its ok . But again if i run game, stop playing, then noise is again after few seconds on idle.

I sure does not sound healthy! I would not keep running it as-is! Have you posted that video to the support team for your card? Or even on the slim chance it is the PSU, maybe show that to Corsair and see what they think?

Yes i am posted to Asus forum. They said it can be coil whine. But for me doesn't. Its electronical noise coming from GPU always when i quitting the game. Not during game, but after quitting game. And that doesnt sound for me like coil whine. Something is fishy.

I'd suggest checking something like OpenHardwareMonitor or AIDA64 and look at sensors. See if anything changes when the noise starts or stops. See if you can replicate the problem without having to launch a game.

My speakers here aren't all that great, but the ticks in the video almost sound like a heatsink adjusting itself while cooling down or something (which should not happen), like how an engine ticks away after you turn it off and it's cooling down. In engines, it's caused by two different metals pressed together contracting at different rates. I've never heard of this being an issue for a computer. It's the only thing I can think that would explain why it'd be making noise like that. Just when it cools down, something happens.

It doesn't make the noise in-game at all, or only after game?

I would definitely contact the manufacturer though. Even if we can identify the issue, it's not something you're going to want to try fixing yourself if you still have a warranty on that.

It doesn't make the noise in-game ( even if i run game 24 hours ) , but only after game . Maybe 15 seconds after quitting the game. I can replicate that noise only after quitting game.( on idle )

Does not matter when it makes the noise, it should not be there at all, and that ticking is not coil whine!

But on my pc that noise is only for about 3-4 seconds then its gone. So no matter what how long it is , its something bad?

Well if its coming from the GPU (I can't exactly tell in the video where its coming from) then the reason P95 does not make the noise is because its a stress test for the CPU and does not load up the GPU. One thing I would test (If you have a spare) is replacing the GPU with another one (Does not matter what manufacturer or brand etc) and then set it up and run the similar situation to see if it makes the noise. If so the noise is not GPU related and is something else but if not you have narrowed it to your GPU which I would RMA in case of problems.

Being stabbed repeatedly for 3 or 4 seconds will kill you just as much as being stabbed 24/7 would. :p
If it were a car, it would be like having a small fire break out every time you turn it off. Just because it hasn't burnt itself down yet doesn't mean it won't in the future. Worse yet, there's a chance it could take the metaphorical house with it.

GPUs typically use a good bit more wattage than CPUs. It's likely that there isn't a whole lot of load on the PSU when stressing CPU only. The game would stress the GPU and CPU together.

So game is stressing much more PSU than Prime95 torture test? So maybe its PSU then if after games i have that noise? Not after PRIME95

I thought you said the noise was coming from the GPU

Yes but only after gaming, so i am thinking that is GPU. After Prime95 i dont hear that noise. So thats why i am asking. Maybe games stressing much more PSU than torture test in Prime95? If yes it can be PSU too.

Like I said depends where the noise is actually coming from. P95 has nothing to do with the GPU so if the noise is coming after stressing the GPU then P95 would not make the noise happen. However if the noise is coming from the Power Supply then its likely only happening when enough power is being drawn from it which the CPU may not be drawing enough under load to cause the noise. Generally GPU's draw more power than a CPU (high end of course) and in the case of gaming you are stressing both the GPU and CPU which is a combined load much higher than both stressed individually.

I would RMA it asap, all so i hear a click what is that ?, i was thinking a relay switch but sounds to heavy but as soon as it happens the sound goes so if it is a relay it sounds like it's not triggering it correctly.

And sounds like it's overloading.

So if only after games i have that noise , its graphic card noise for 100%?
Best way to tell is to listen closely to your machine and try to move around to figure where its coming from. If its louder near the PSU then its the PSU and if louder near the GPU its the GPU.

Just because one way of stressing the machine causes the noise does not mean its that device.

Can you test the card on another system? Do you have an extra PSU or can you borrow one from a friend to test as well?
