You've got malware. Go into Programs and Features and uninstall anything you don't recognize there. And you can try cleaning it with AVG Free.

That is "YieldKit". "AdBlockPlus" considers this one of the "Acceptable Ads".
Thread at ABP forum on subject: Proposal to improve Acceptable Ads criteria

How to possibly stop the ads, as instructed here, in this quote from ABP on opting out of the "Acceptable Ads", entitled "But I hate all ads!".
But I hate all ads!

No problem, you can disable this feature at any time. To do so:

On Firefox: click the Adblock Plus icon and choose Filter Preferences from the menu. Uncheck "Allow non-intrusive advertising" and you are done.

On Chrome: right-click the Adblock Plus icon in the address bar on the right, then choose Options and uncheck "Allow non-intrusive advertising."

On Opera: click the Opera menu button in the left corner at the top (on OS X: click Window at the top), choose Extensions, find Adblock Plus there, click on Options and uncheck "Allow non-intrusive advertising."

On Internet Explorer: click the Adblock Plus icon in the status bar on the right, then choose Options and uncheck "Allow non-intrusive advertising."

On Safari: click the Adblock Plus icon in the address bar on the left, choose Options, and uncheck "Allow non-intrusive advertising"

On Android: click the Adblock Plus icon in the notification bar at the top, then uncheck "Acceptable Ads / Allow some non-intrusive advertising."

Also, you may want to read this post by Sanage at Notebook review forums about turning on the "Do not Track" in IE.

I use ad-blocker. It's even good on the adult sites. It used to be I click on the play button on the video and 2 or 3 new windows pop up, but now it proceeds straight to the video.

I use it on Firefox as well. A great feature is that you can turn it of for the pages you want. I turned it off for TPU since there are not too many adds anyways.

I found AdBlock slowed FF considerably.

Now I use NoScript and Ghostery.

adblock and adblock plus are different things from different people.

I use adblock and iv never had any problem with it unlike the problems iv had with adblock plus

personally anyway. I also think that the OPs problem isnt ad block software related and more related to malware. but idk if thats been handled yet because i admittedly only skimmed the thread.

If you've got malware, then the only 100% sure way of getting rid of it is to reformat your system drive and do a clean install of Windows. It's not worth taking a chance with cleaning it. Make sure to backup all your data first.

Either way, the two add-ons I use are quite effective.

It's disgusting how many programs and sites today are bloated with ads and crapware (fake codecs, fake download buttons). It's getting worse.

For example you install Foxit Reader, it installs Foxit Cloud and asks you to install other stuff by Foxit. WTF?
Google shoves their chrome and ads everywhere ... ugh there is no hope /rant

It's disgusting how many programs and sites today are bloated with ads and crapware (fake codecs, fake download buttons).
That is one of the reasons I block them all.

When I download a file from a website I never went before there are tons of download buttons on the entire page, easy to click on the wrong button.
It happens frequently, sometimes is hard to guess where the actual download link really is.

Those annoying pop-up adult ads when appear when you less want them (family members staring at your screen :banghead:).

There are many abusive ads everywhere, even in places where you could not imagine. And *boom*, you are constrained. People will think you were doing a thing you were not doing.

I hate when that happens.

I can imagine. WWW is full of adult ads with webcam whores and online games.

It's also really disappointing that many tech and science sites have astrology forecast ads or some celebrity crap

adblock and adblock plus are different things from different people.

I use adblock and iv never had any problem with it unlike the problems iv had with adblock plus

personally anyway. I also think that the OPs problem isnt ad block software related and more related to malware. but idk if thats been handled yet because i admittedly only skimmed the thread.
I just dumped adblock plus, which is what I thought I wanted....Turns out, https://getadblock.com/ was what I wanted! Thanks for posting that link, as I just did...

Thanks, and BTW, this is what you all want!

I've always used AB+ since learning that was supposed to be an old and unsupported product. However, its website hardly looks unsupported.

I'm wondering what sort of problems went away from you Sol when you switched? :) I'll bet I've experienced them myself without ever realizing it could have been AB+.

major FF+ABP user here, even add my own filters... no problems, only higher ram usage (as if that's a big deal unless you're below 3gb system ram, the FF browser wont bother going past 2gb usage anyway)

what are you people doing to have a bad time with ABP? the only problem i've had is the chrome version, in which case regular AB seemed to block more consistently, but this was years ago when i compared both on chrome

OP, i find it odd you need all that junk installed & running, if it's ONLY on SPECIFIC websites, then surely it's the site's fault, in which case a browser adblocker should do the job

for OS level, could just do periodic scans & a mixture of checking your taskmanager+using autoruns

That's adware. Use adwcleaner and LavaSoft AdAware (only the anti-adware portion). They can be a bitch to get rid of, those are the only two programs I've found that could do it.

I had an issue a few months ago when I formatted a PC and used the Bing search engine in IE to download firefox.

It's first link wasn't to the mozilla page it was to a page that looked like a trusted host (much like how TPU hosts files).

That install of firefox came with it's own spam engine lol!

It was early enough in the install that I just did another format. I certainly wasn't expecting false links from Bing and IE working together. It is however the competition so I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a known problem and they have failed to fix it.

Just tested this again, Naked IE, Default homepage search "Firefox".

Top 2 links are dodgy.

http://firefox.descargar.es/en/?p=UK-7SEARCH&kw=firefox

http://www.ifreeupdates.com/free-firefox/index.php?i=&id=54c700050356e

It's the 4th link that is the actual search result and not a sponsored link you want.

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

Edit: just done the same search for "chrome". Same bloatware download sites are the top links. methinks IE is feeling the competition.
