Perhaps this is a silly question but... when a video card says Vista Ready... Does it mean it is ready for DirectX 10 too?

Wich cards are Direct X10 ready? Could a DirectX9 card ever run DirectX10 games?

Vista ready literally means the card has Vista drivers, not that it supports DX10 as well. Currently nVidia are the only company with DX10 "compatible" cards available in the guise of the 8x00 series. This means that while the 8x00 series will run DX10 games when they are available, the graphics architecture is not a true unified DX10 architecture, hence "compatible". ATi will be releasing various forms of the R600 eventually, but currently available ATi hardware will only support up to DX9c, though arguably DX9c cards could run DX10, it would only be in a software emulation mode, hence more than likely slow. Very slow. If your just looking for a nice stand-in card until ATi release their DX10 cards (which are a proper unified DX10 architecture) then something along the lines of a X1950Pro will be fine. If you want a card thats DX10 "compatible" on the other hand, a 320MB 8800GTS would be a sound choice, the 8600GTS is another DX10 alternative, but its not a very good performer.

It just means it has Vista driver support and can probably support the aero glass feature.

vista ready is just a marketing ploy, nothing more, it means that vista will run with areo, or could run with areo, nothing more.

and vista will run on OLD ass videocards, so far i have seen it run on as low as my buddys tyan server boards rage XL 8mb onboard video(its a quad dualcore opetron system) it runs fine, but no areo :p (hes got MSDN so he was able to install vista home primum and ultimet for testing on it) we both agree, its at best in a beta state now, your best off waiting to use/get vista till at least sp1 is out, if not longer, him and i have used windows 2003 server for our desktop use for years now and arent planing to move till at least the server version of vista is out and tested for stability!!!
