way too many question lol what about this is this good, asus or something better

this rig is only for gaming, I have separate daily driver rig and a server for movies
I asked since I for example use the same pc for everything so i prefer to have a nice IPS screen with 8-10ms response time and the occasional tearing / ghosting than a TN screen with 1ms response. As i said the best would be getting a gsyn screen like this or this but they are over priced in my opinion. I have never had a 144Hz screen so can't say if they are benefits or not. If i remember well i was reading a review of the Dell P2414H when i was looking for a screen for myselft and the reviewer said there was barely any input lag and minimal ghosting observable and it's a IPS business grade screen. Otherwise there are plenty of 1ms, 1080p TN screens out there like this for example

In all honesty without reading any of the other comments, i suggest waiting for skylake to release this fall and upgrade then since its going to be a 14nm fab and DDR4 being the new "standard"..
DDR4 being the new standard?
unless you have 3 oil wells outside your home....DDR4 its overpriced...

DDR3 still have a large future, also OP's Overclocked i7 2600k @4.6ghz may last at least 3 years more i bet,

Also if there is the need for a new processor OP is able to switch to a intel i7 3770K or i5 3570K without changing motherboard or memory....getting a faster and newer processor,

@peche sorry mate bad suggestion. 2600k is only 8-10% slower but with OC it kick 90% of 3770k out there with less temp.
3570k is worse and you compare it to 2500k,not 2600k@4,6

to op, you can get new monitor or ssd or almost 2x970. for the price difference 980vs970. oc970 and you only 5-10% out of 980 performance.
get 2*970 and you 40-60% ahead.
there are some wide screen monitors if you like it. 1920*1080<2560*1080p(wide screen)<2560x1440<2560*1600:love:440*1440(wide screen):love:840*2160
2560*1080p need less gpu power compare to higher res.of 970 enough for most games at ultra. you get to see more content on screen

@XSI thanks for adding facts to you correction!
i've mistaken my reply with the i5 3570K, also i recognize the high overclocking potential the Sandies have, and i do know about the thermal cliché intel have on Ivy's.... but it can be fixed delidding it, delidded i7 3770K can reach 4.6ghz with out problems, also 5.0GHZ@ 1.39/1.40v, but you are Completely correct with the statement about i5 and i7 wrong comparison i've made my friend,

I also recognize that I prefer Ivy's even with the known thermal issues,

Thanks for the correction fella!

You do not have any reason to upgrade CPU, unless you want to for kicks. You system at 4.6ghz is very solid. I wouldn't invest anymore in that socket and save cash for upcoming sockets/ddr4.

@XSI have brought some correct facts, the i5 3570K wont be an option but i7 3770K delidded may bring 10% more performance, so if you plan to replace the processor it may be an option and you have no need to replace the current motherboard you have, Z68 chipset its compatible with the entire FCLGA1155 Package, for example I'm running Ggiabyte's Z68 chipset based motherboard with a i7 3770,

But there are more options for a future change, but only switching to a FCLGA1155 socket based processor lets you use the same motherboard, please refer here for a complete list of compatible processsors on the FCLGA1155 Package:

Its the same arguement back in the day with 570'oc vs 580 but now its time to upgrade and sell the old one

for resell value which is more appealing 570'oc all its life or 580 thats has been running stock?

STRIX GTX 970 is a must for you. It will lose a lot less of it's value overtime, even OCed vs the 980. I mean 343$ from Amazon or Newegg http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NJ9BJ8G

After that, IMO a screen upgrade is DEFINITIVELY in order. G-SYNC or lightboost monitors are good, but TBH, a 1440p IPS monitor has been my favorite despite having both. So I'd suggest an IPS 1440p monitor. Best 400$ you will spend.

Now realize that a GTX 970 STRIX does very little noise, if you want you can start going towards a more silent build, if noise if of any importance, I'd just get a 480GB SSD like you looked at before ( perhaps look at Crucial or Sandisk Extreme II/Pro ones. Going back to air cooling is a possibility if you'd like, though I doubt you want this. FT05 style case could be interesting noise-wise.

How's your headphone/headset and/or speaker situation? Perhaps you want a sound card or an external USB DAC and/or amp, maybe a good office chair for comfort (used on craigslist or an IKEA one)

Skylake is going to largely be DDR4. DDR3 was overpriced too when it was first released...

If you are wanting to go 1440p then I can recommend the monitor BarbaricSoul linked to. I've been using that monitor for a little while now and I love it. Don't be put off by it being a PLS panel. That is just the Samsung equivalent of the LG IPS panel.

I'm used to be very active TPU member and keep up with the tech now i'm out of touch and need a little bit of help.

1. Whats the most powerful (single) GPU I can buy for my mobo/cpu?
2. Is there a new GPU coming out worth waiting?
3. Should I upgrade my system? im having the itch to rebuild.

There are two things i always consider before spending my money : 1 ) Do i really need the thing i want to buy ? 2 ) Can i afford it ? .

point #1 is irrelevant, only point #2 is valid. Don't matter if you need it. If you can afford it and want it is all that matters.

I don't need a 6 core/12 thread >$700 video card (when purchased) computer, but I wanted it and could afford it. I don't need a Corvette, but I wanted one and I could afford it. See what I'm saying? It's not always about what you need, sometimes it's about what you want. Got to enjoy the nicer things sometimes.

Point #1 is the most relevant as i've seen a lot of people wanting to buy the best graphic card on the market while having a 1440x900 monitor and the only game that they were playing was Silkroad . That's just pointless and it will only increase the power bill . I see no point in buying a 650 HP car and drive at no more than 50 mph most of the time .

Point #1 is the most relevant as i've seen a lot of people wanting to buy the best graphic card on the market while having a 1440x900 monitor and the only game that they were playing was Silkroad . That's just pointless and it will only increase the power bill .

But that is not the case here. Erazer is looking into upgrading his/her system. He/she is planning on purchasing either a GTX 970 or 980, both of which are adequate for gaming on a 1440p monitor. I know this because my 780ti does it on a 1600p monitor.

I see no point in buying a 650 HP car and drive at no more than 50 mph most of the time .

Then you completely miss the point of having one, though mine is only 300 HP ('92 LT1) and sees >90 mph each day I take her out.

There are two things i always consider before spending my money : 1 ) Do i really need the thing i want to buy ? 2 ) Can i afford it ? .

Spending a little bit more sometimes is worth it, when I build my system x2-3 years ago I made sure I got what I wanted and been very happy and satisfied with it, its seems my system still good for x3 more years if more, id say I made the right decision.

No i didn't miss anything . He wanted any advice , i gave him my personal principles . It's his decision what he wants to do with his money . I am not arguing principles here , i might be too old for this . I've met really rich people on my roads . Some of them taught me a lot .
