When I bought my Graphic Cards and the Waterblock for it i wanted to buy the Arctic Silver MX -5 but unfortunately they didn't have it and I ended up picking the Arctic Silver MX-4, it's 6 months that I've applied the MX -4 to my Cards and temperatures are amazing.

from My own personal experience, I have had nothing but great consistent Temps and performance with AS5...I say that because I noticed several posts include some form of "never using AS5 again" etc.... I wonder why the experiences could be SO wildly different? I noticed this exact post a few days ago, and it reminded Me that I haven't changed out the AS5 that I used when I originally installed MY CPU during it's original build(2nd Generation Sandy bridge era). Since then I have run Consistent OC's, on My i5 2500k of a minimum of 4.0Ghz, and have NEVER seen temps that are high for My cooling solution type (H-70 Corsair). Moreover, since the recent Re-application of AS5 yesterday that I was mentioning in the beginning of My post, I have had Low temps right out of the gate, I'm sure they will drop a bit, but I don't recall ANY significant changes from Day one to the 4th week. Im not saying it isn't true, I'm simply stating that I (from experience) have never seen significant drops after 200 hours or whatever it may be.

I'm curious if it is due to the method in which the thermal paste is applied?? I have been, and will always be a "spreader", it has always served Me VERY well, and I see no reason to change that which isn't broken. The "pea" method is , in MY OPINION not a reliable method of application, maybe because of My large hands, General clumsiness, or a combination of the factors. I have tried it several time's but have always ended up having to re-apply.

I have tried a couple of methods also pea size and applying a little thin layer into heatsink / waterblock with a credit card it’s the one that seems better for me, but what I hate its that odd curing time, temps are getting high and low, for several weeks till they reach the end of the curing time, its works well but I recognize that I hate high temps…

I use the pea and sometimes the half of grain of rice method. I used to spread it across the IHS with a plastic sandwich bag. Arctic MX-4 has definitely grabbed my attention.

the fact that you will have chilled temperatures without "curing time" make it flawless,
also some people prefer Arctic MX2 over MX4... but thats another mistery!

Personal opinion: waiting, having odd temps due a curing time? that's not what I looked for…I'm not saying that Arctic Silver 5 does not work or it’s a crap it's just I don’t like it so much, but its what I have here and its what I have to use,

You guys all realize that the "curing time" makes about 1-5C of temps which in the relm of making it hotter or cooler makes no real difference in the real world, if you have a 5C temp drop 4C of that will happen in the first 30 minutes to an hour at full load, or longer if you aren't loading the system.

no way... i have gotten more than 10C betwen days of use... always at night...

Spread methods generally result in air bubbles trapped in your paste. I've never really noticed a temperature difference after AS5 cures. I end up linking this chart just about every time someone mentions thermal paste. Of particular note is the impressive thermal properties of mayonnaise.

We need to have a retest with egg whites only since the the other ingredient of mayo (oil) doesn't test so well.... any volunteers?

If I hadn't cut the tubing on my rig to exact fit I would be all over this, but I do have my kids air cooled computer with a E8500........ It achieved stable temps in about 1 hour with AS5, haze on the CPU, spread on the heatsink, and a tiny drop in the middle of the CPU before installation.

This is why I stopped using AS5 and instead went with MX-4. Bit thick, but you just put a blob in the center (3-4mm across is more than plenty), then just sit your heat sink down. The pressure will spread it and it will be perfect every time. No air bubbles either.

...so I use Ceramique2 ..which is notsogood past a little less than -70
