A friend is looking to build a pc for the first time and needs some parts help.

He has ~£500 to spend (he would like to keep this as low as possible) and needs

CPU - An i5
RAM - 8GB ram
Motherboard - Nothing special needed
PSU - Enough to run system without hitches, semi modular would be a great bonus but not 100% needed
Case - can be generic, he doesnt mind skimping on this so long as he can build in it then forget about it
SSD - 256GB preferred

He will be re using his monitor, kb/m and will be using my old gtx 570 until he has money to buy a new graphics card at a later date.

He would prefer to go down the intel route and WONT be overclocking.

Any suggestions ? i have some ideas but would like to get some info from some TPU members.

Thanks in advance

He wants to be able to play some newer games hence wanting to build a pc since his current one just flat out wont play them. (some old prebuilt)

Here is a budget build with 100 pounds to spare for better PSU, more ram, or whatever. Case is always a personal choice this is just an example.

Just an example 30 pounds more will get him a 4670K if he is willing to consider overclocking.

no need for the Z97 boards and K CPUs. OP said this system will not be OC'ed and wants to keep it as low priced as possible. You could trim your prices a little more. They are good builds for the money though.

i see not a big change... but there you have!
i rather get the unlocked procesor, the diference its so cheap and getting a SKU "K" processsor may become your build more future proof.. just my humble opinion by the way!

Hey guys, Holythief's friend here.

After the suggestions and some reading, I decided to go for the K variant so it keeps the option open for overclocking in the future. It won't be for a while though, so no need for a extra cooler just yet.

Here is a screenie of the parts.

I'll be ordering it in a few hours just in case there's any last minute thing that needs to be changed. If there's anything I've missed, please let me know!

And a big thanks for all the help :)

Hey just noticed that the ram you choose is slower and a bit more expensive than the one i linked. Also wrt to the PSU may i recommend the XFX XTR 550W instead of the CM for few quids more and its fully modular

Edit: @BarbaricSoul beat me to it :)

I'm looking to order everything from amazon so its easier to manage since everything would all be in one place, delivery is free and I've ordered from them before.

I'd consider getting the aforementioned ram and psu from morecomputers since they're more expensive/unavailable on amazon, but never bought from them before... are there any alternatives on amazon with similar price range? ^^

Now I feel like an amazon fanboy D:

I dont know since I am not from UK, I just used partpicker but I see they also have free shipping so that shouldnt be a problem.
This PSU is just as good as that XFX unit, has a higher wattage rating, is less expensive, and available from AmazonUK- http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B00EN3FD20/?tag=tec053-21

Actually that evga is more corsair CS territory. Its bronze tier 3 psu. The XTR is made by seasonic and it's modular

Edit: With that being said I am not saying its a bad PSU especially for the price. Also unless you are going SLI i doubt you will reach even close to full load. Finally so my post is not useless, here is the same RAM at amazon in white and the XFX XTR 650W for few quids more or if that's too much for the Zalman ZM550

I have no idea why the links are getting fucked up

Thank you for all the helps again!

I used the white ram and XFX XTR 650W linked krusha's post, so final parts together looks like this.

Now hopefully I can put it together without messing up haha ^^

I like your choice of case. I have a black 210, very very good budget case.
