ok I just did a reinstall of windows and now every time my computer starts it is super slow.

windows gets loaded and the internet icon first appears I put a clock on it and from the time it shows the little blue circle thingy like its searching for a connection, it takes 45 seconds to continue a search for a connection and then it shows the yellow triangle signal for 5 seconds then it has internet access. when I click for windows to check internet connection it says its fine.

please help, this is a reformat and fresh windows install fully updated so its not like I downloaded anything or got a virus, this is a windows setup issue.

utilities installed along with windows are:

adobe reader
adobe flash player
7zip
superantispyware
malwarebytes
ccleaner
paint.net
nero 7
office 2003

all utilities are direct source downloads or from oem disks

I never had internet issues before so this is something new

if I had to guess its like it is waiting for other process to finish before it can connect but there are no process running in the start up programs so it must be a windows process

Try to install an updated NIC driver. If this is on the board in your specs it should be located here:

http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-006120.htm

holy crap, that was it its instantly connected on startup now

I wasn't sure about it because it said I needed an "Intel® HD Graphics Control Panel" driver which didn't sound like it was lan or internet related but it worked.

im surprised windows didn't tell me I needed this driver, or does windows not do that for hardware stuff?

I didnt think my MB cd drivers were that old but this driver was version 10 and the new one is version 15 so i think I guess I better look into being sure I have all the latest updated MB drivers and put them on a disk for reinstalls

I hate forgetting about simple basic stuff like never trusting MB cd drivers

You were likely using the default Microsoft drivers. Alot of the time they work Okay, but always recommended to grab the proper ones.

Glad it was a simple fix.

well yes and no

it fixed mine but on my dads who is using the gigabyte h81 board seen here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...67&cm_re=gigabyte_h81m-_-13-128-667-_-Product
loading the intel driver did nothing and I went to gigabyte and got what they claim are the latest drivers for everything yet his is still in this "cant find the Ethernet device" mode on start up. its the same thing mine was doing, from the time it shows the little blue circle thingy like its searching for a connection, it takes 45 seconds to continue a search for a connection and then it shows the yellow triangle signal for 5 seconds then it has internet access.

I don't know what else to do, the MB cd drivers and the gb website drivers which are supposed to be the latest drivers don't work and when I tell windows to check the network connection it says its fine and shows no issues.

I think the problem is that the intel driver install utility does not show this board. its a series 8 board but itds the h81m and they only show h87 boards in series 8 so my board isn't supported by this utility so can someone help me find the correct utility that does list and install drivers for this h81m board?

when I do try to install a network driver for it, it tells me "cannot install driver, there are no intel adapters on this computer"

Your dads board uses the Realtek NIC. You will need to download the proper drivers from Realtek and not Intel for him.

thanks, no wonder I cant find it.

its so stupid when the motherboard website doesn't even tell you these things

ok, no joy I downloaded and installed "Install_Win7_7091_01212015" but

it didn't work, it still cant find the network device on startup this is just unbelievable, it has to be something simple im missing but ??????

Try uninstalling the device from Device Manager then rebooting.
It should pick up the "new" device and install the drivers, allow it to search online if asked.

On the Motherboard manufacturers page it lists the Lan driver as Realtek 8.029.0314.2014

I already deleted the driver and let windows find and install its own and still not working.

also the Realtek 8.029.0314.2014 says it is only for windows 8 and not used for windows 7 but i'll try it anyway, got nothing to lose

where in system error reporting logs will I find whats going on on startup? im not seeing much of anything there and nothing that stands out as having to do with startup errors
