I was just wondering if you want to install

Intel SATA Preinstall driver
(For AHCI / RAID Mode)

or

Intel® Rapid Storage Technology driver

even though I don't do raid?

also im wondering about the

Intel Management Engine Interface

if it is needed or is it something that I can leave uninstalled without any negative affects?

I guess the question is, do you want to install all drivers and MB function related utilities for everything on the motherboard

or is it ok to just stick to the basics like lan, inf (chipset), audio, usb, and vga?

I always leave out things like hardware monitors and overclocking tools because I doint use them but I don't know if stuff listed above has to be installed for best system performance even if not being used by me.

now that boards have 9 or 10 drivers for them it gets a little confusing if everything is really needed. I miss the old days when you only had 4 drivers lol.

also, is is best to search for my own drivers or trust gigabyte website to always have the latest drivers? im just not sure if its better to search for drivers based on the hardware like googling "Realtek ALC892 driver" or is that too generic and its risky you might get the wrong driver?

I only install the drivers I need, if i dont use RAID I dont install them....
especially Intel IME software/drivers tend to slow things down (lots of processes running in the background)

If it is right or wrong, I do not know, but I have never had trouble with only installing the most necessary/basic drivers

I don't think you'll need any of them. I'd stick to the basics & check out if all devices you need are ready in the "Device Manager". As for driver search - I sent you a message about this :)

You mean Slim Drivers or Driver Booster? ... they should be used with care, they tend to install crap software in the installation fase.....especially Driver Booster

Exactly my point! I recommended "3dp chip" to keakar, and even this one isn't totally clean, however you can remove the OpenCandy adware it installs afterwards with MBAM or the Open Candy Cleanup Tool. After that this updater still works fine, I like to use it every now and then. Does a decent job.

I install ahci drivers only (without that intel crapware; just bare cat, inf and dll files aka floppy version). I don't have usb 3 but those who have should also install Intel USB 3 eXtensible Host Controller version and that's it

well windows said all my drivers were up to date and good but it was slow loading and sluggish

only to find out later while trying to figure out why I couldnt get a good internet connection right away, that something was wrong so it was suggested I installed and ran intel driver update utility which said that my hd grafics driver for windows 7 64 bit was outdated by 6 or 7 versions old.

so device manager didn't even know this driver needed updating which doesnt give me any confidence that it knows if any others need updating either, just that I have them.

Windows update will show a list of OPTIONAL drivers to select from, it might help to check them occasionaly.
Intel RST is only of use if using a traditional hard drive, not an SSD.

well guys im sure its just an outdated driver issue but i cant use the traditional tools to get anywhere.

i tried "3dp chip" but it does nothing, besides the added bloat it says i have 8 outdated drivers with no info about them (so i cant just search out those driver downloads by version number) it wants me to purchase before it will install updates so thats out.

what are some good "free" driver updaters?

i cant believe itels driver updater doesnt support all intel boards like that  thats just beyond stupid

I'd suggest not using a third party software updater, they are rubbish!
Windows update does everything you need.

well thats just it, in this case it doesn't see the device until you install the correct driver to start with so since I had no driver it didn't see I needed a new one. cant say why but windows was happy saying I don't have issues even though it takes 50 seconds to find a network device every time you reboot. everytime I rebooted it had to install a generic windows driver to run the network device yet for some reason this didn't stay installed to work on the next startup.

I was thinking the same thing myself, isn't windows supposed to read and fix these things by itself? but apparently it doesn't do that for MB drivers

Windows has generic drivers installed that should allow the device to work, but not optimally.
Device Manager wont look for or tell you you need to update, Windows Update can do that for you if you start that manually.
Chip set drivers for the Motherboard might not include network drivers, but they are usually found on the Motherboard manufacturers site which might be specific to that board so drivers from another site may not work as well.

ok well im not trying to disagree with you but I even uninstalled the driver completely and let windows start without amy network controller driver and it searched and installed the microsoft driver it decided it wanted for the network controller and its still lost in lala land on startup so if its not the driver then what is it?

im at a complete loss as to whats going on here and at this point I have to wonder if its something other then the driver causing it to not find the lan network device

i always take a look at device manager and just install that marked - exclamation if i dont use it just leave it, like if i dont use onboard soundcard just disable it through bios and dont install the driver

well that's just it, the list shows no anomalies, everything has the "ok" look with no flags or caution warnings, nothing. when clicked to check and update the driver it says driver installed is the latest driver. uninstalling and reinstalling the driver from device manager does not fix it.

its almost as if windows is saying all drivers are ok but the network device still isn't being seen on startup
