Locked in a room with Onemoar and crazyeyes for 20 minutes or so would do it.

So, they should make this in to a game mode. Was in a pistol only server earlier this morning. Wild Commander shows up and drops a couple quads. Let's just say that when I saw it the first time, I'm glad I did not pass it up (even though I gave it a thought).

I'm uploading a crappy video of it right now. Raptr is the only thing that works for me. Afterburner causes the driver to crash for some reason when I record in Eyefinity resolutions. I don't understand why yet. Raptr does not have that resolution support so it ends up with something like 480x1080 stretched. Little pixelated but still decent enough to watch.

Try using Dxtory with Lagrith Codec, it's probably the best recording solution out there at this time.

Does it support Mantle?

By the way, here is said video:

Should be in 1080, but I just completed uploading so it might take a while to show up as an option.

I have some annoying FPS problems.
On some/all maps, in certain situations and/or some seemingly random spots, my FPS drops a lot, even below 50. It's not a CPU bottleneck though. After some time I realized the GPU usage would drop a lot at times, probably causing this. I am not totally sure of that, though. But it just makes sense.
Now the other interesting thing is that when I disable vsync, I get anywhere between 60 (at least it doesn't go below that - I guess some maps just aren't optimized enough) and 160 FPS, so there's plenty of theoretical performance available.
The catch is that with vsync off, the game is everything but smooth. When I turn around, it's stuttering like crazy, but in a different way than when the FPS is low.

I play under DirectX because I have to. 64bit version of the game (irrelevant information). Oh and in borderless window, but it behaves the same in fullscreen.
I have no idea what to make of this, and definitely don't know what to do.
Help?

Unless you get screen tearing, something I have never seen in a BF game, there is no reason to have vsync enabled.

I assume I do get that, the choppy image when I turn around.
It looks significantly more laggy without vsync, even if I have 90 FPS :(

That's the nature of V-Sync. It will always cause slight mouse lag. Unfortunately AMD doesn't have any settings for it. NVIDIA however does offer adjustment on how many frames to render ahead. If you decrease it from 3 to 1, things get a lot better afaik.

I had the post wrong.

I don't care what anyone calls it, it was a direct result of disabling vsync, and it looked like shit :p
The real problem is how to force the bloody GPU to work more.

If your using the r9 290 in your profile, increase resolution scaling to 120%. It actually increase my fps at 1080.

Also why do you not use Mantle? My highs are not any better, but my lowers are much higher under Mantle compared to DX11.

I tried the scaling, but that actually did lower my fps, I think in those critical situations. You are right though, it does make sense. I will test that again and see what happens.
I can't use Mantle because I need the Afterburner overlay, plus I run streaming software.

I wish AMD released that bullshit Mantle SDK already so people could start implementing support for it.

The real problem is how to force the bloody GPU to work more.

Re-install the video card drivers, that must be your main problem. Some maps do have some spots that cause fps drop. Vsync and Triple Buffer should be off.
If you are using an nVidia video card try the 344.11 release, it works great with my SLI set up. If your CPU or video card are getting hot it will throttle back.

Oh and btw, I created a Twitch channel as an experiment. Maybe streaming could be fun, who knows. Feel free to tune in when you're bored and don't mind looking at someone being painfully shit at the game :D

That's accounted for. The streaming thing is irrelevant, the frame drops happen regardless. It's just the maps really. I think I just have to live with it.

Raptr is pretty good (if you can get past the social crap) though I'm not sure about the Twitch part of it. I do know the recording part works with Mantle. The problem I have with it is that is stretches a 1080 resolution to my 5760x1080 and makes the video very pixilated. Trying to use Afterburner with DX11 and record at that resolution just causes the video driver to crash when I try to use the AMD VCE option regardless of the game.

I do know I can only get ~30fps on Shanghai since DICE last "optimized" it when using DX11. On Mantle I'm at my formal normal of 60-70 fps.

Do you know of any locations that you know you get these frame drops every time? I'd be interested to test them myself to see what happens. Also what is you graphic settings?

Well it's somewhat random, and heavily depends on the server size and population, I think. I can get pretty noticeable "lag" on the rooftops of Pearl Market 64p - but again, not everywhere.

Btw, the resolution scale "workaround" works on smaller maps, like domination or so. I had to turn it off when I played Zavod 311 64p though. I didn't have time to properly stare at the overlay with tens of people shooting everywhere, though :D
I play with both AA settings off, lighting on medium (that setting is a bitch and I suspect it of causing trouble), everything else on ultra. Borderless window, FOV 70. 1920x1200.

Try setting lighting and shadows to low. I got a nice fps pickup just from setting those to low from high.

What exactly do you like from the Afterburner overlay? I've lately noticed that there are a lot of games that act odd when Afterburner is running.

Nah, I tried. It looks like crap, even borderline bugged. Medium seems to do the trick for me. Interestingly, there is no difference between high and ultra in terms of framerate and visual quality both. Going medium gives me around 10 fps, though.

What I like? Well I know exactly what my GPU usage, temperature and fps are all the time, which helps me "troubleshoot" these weird fps drops. I also use HWiNFO to send total CPU usage to RTSS overlay.

It's not really giving me any trouble. I noticed I had to enable stealth mode otherwise the overlay disappears when I start streaming with OBS. But that's the only thing.

Oh and btw the other problematic spot I found is on Sunken Dragon, right at the A flag, looking across the water, having the ship at the left side of the center of the screen. With vsync off, I get like 65 fps there. That's with 120% resolution scale. When I drop the scale to 100%.... nothing happens! Still the same fps. lol! Talk about optimizations.

So me and the son tried to play some BF3 last night. Couldn't even get onto Origin. I'm assuming it was everywhere ? Ended up playing BFBC2. Friggin had a blast on Panama Canal. That game is still the shit. One huge fight concentrated on the triangle AB&C. No one even tried to cap D. I do so much better on that and BF3 then I do on BF4. Not sure why except the fact I suck at it. He set up a man cave in a spare bedroom at his house and I hooked him up with a pretty good gamer and bought him BF4 so maybe he will get back into PC gaming. Love playing in his squad, he carries a whole team. Has Crazyeye moments, but he is fun to watch. He was actually pretty calm last night though.

Oh c'mon what the hell is this BS. In BF4 single player, dragging FOV slider does absolutely NOTHING to the actual FOV. It feels like looking at the world through the damn shoe box and my head is already starting to hurt...
