The clue is in the numbers. The higher the first number, the newer the card (in this current series of three digit numbers for cards); the higher the second number, the better the card in the current lineup. Though in your case, the 730 uses the same GPU as the 430 for reasons that I do not understand. You may as well just put in the 730 if you already have it, simply because it's newer.

Neither of those cards are any good for NBA 2k15. It's a pretty demanding game.

both cards are woefully inadequate unless you are running at less then 720P

True, but.....
It also depends on the version of the GT 730 he has. If it's one with 96 CUDA, it'll be pretty pathetic. From what I can gather if it uses 384 CUDA, you're looking at a GPU around an 8800GT/9800GT performance level. The 96 CUDA would be closer to the 9600 GT (or 8800 GTS 320/640MB card that ran the G80 chip).

I put a 384 CUDA, 1GB (was about only about $60 when I got it, now it's running about $75) in the computer my daughter has and she can run Track Mania 2 maxed at 1680x1050 without any issues. I'm not sure how reassuring this is, but it's an okay card for low end gaming. It works for her needs and I wouldn't expect much more than low setting levels in most newer games at the resolution she runs.

I'd make sure you run the game at low settings first and then slowly move them up to find a good acceptable level.

I have no idea about vtune, but Nvidia Inspector works great on Nvidia cards.

OneMoar is right... you got the crummy GT 730. They make 3 models and only the GDDR5 model is decent. Very weird collection of specs if you click on the link he provided. Really bad practice IMO to call them all GT 730s, but they do this with a lot of cards in the GT line.

AFAIK any new card would be compatible. The only thing you need to worry about is power (PSU). The GTX 750 is the most powerful card that will work on pretty much any machine.

GT 730 without any doubt.

Not true!

In fact the GT 730 version he has is the exact same Fermi chip that the GT 430 has. All the other specs appear to be identical as well.

Which is really insane. 5 years and 3 generations later, it is the the same card.

This is actually wrong. There is, in fact, an OEM option called precisely "GT 730", but it's rather rare. I personally haven't seen any of those for sale.

The more popular one would be the retail GT 730, and it's a shiny new Kepler chip with everything you would expect: 384 ALUs, 64-bit memory bus, pretty decent clocks. A good GPU overall, I think.

According to the specs he listed, he has the first one in this list: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-730/specifications

It's the same as the Fermi GT 430: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-430/specifications

Here is another list that shows it as the same GF108 chip: http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/in...powerplugs=&sort=released&q=or+type+to+Search...

That all is absolutely true. I'm not denying the fact that this card can be based on Fermi chip. I was just sharing my experience, since I monitor PC parts shops on daily basis and (pretty much as I said) I've yet to see a single Fermi-based GT 730. Seriously, they have, like what, 60 different SKUs (2 of them would be Inno3D products) in one of the biggest shops in my area, and all those cards are based on Kepler silicon. And there's a good explanation for that.

GT 730 was originally released as a "refresh" for a long-running GT 630 (which used to be Fermi-only SKU for a long period of time, and only after a while was reincarnated as a GT 640 "Kepler" silicon with half the memory bus width, also known as GT 630 V2). The idea behind that change was to oppose freshly released R7 240 (which was pretty much uncontested at that time, since NVIDIA had no new offers for that price segment). The change in name (GT 630 => GT 730) is, in fact, merely a marketing trick, since the leap from GF117 to GK107 has already been made.

And this is why GT 730 "Fermi" chips are so rare: there wasn't a Fermi-based variant in the first place!

Start saving cash and get a 760

Both chip makers tend to recycle left over chips for the budget parts.

7730 was prev gen. Its better than that 730 or 430. However you might want to price check on the 7750/7770

All of those are a joke for gaming, but the last one should be the best.

Sure you can't pay a little extra for a better card?
