It's always good to have a spare GPU lying for testing or troubleshooting so I'd say just hang onto it. From the look of it according to @64K's link, it's not really worth selling.

ya the gpu i want some say works for only a day so i'm hoping its still a good card it only using 150 watts 6 pin so i hope the one i am getting wont stop working after a day

Keep a spare for testing or standby but sell your old kit as soon as possible.
As soon as a new step is taken in gpu's, AMD to the R series for example the arse falls out of the market lower down.

Sell as soon as you can so at least someone else can enjoy it and you will recoup a bigger chunk of your initial outlay.

As an example i bought a Powercolor HD 5850 for £12.50 a couple of months ago. Perfect for what i do, useless to the bloke who upgraded to to a R260 or R270 whatever he had.

Just my personal experience and i do have an eye for a bargain second user wise.

Its easy to collect a big pile. sure they look lovely in their original boxes but they will only decrease in value for many many years. Till an enthusiasts market catches up with retro builds.

i keep it for a week after i get my new gpu make sure the new one dont stop working according to some reviews they may have just gotten a bad GPU

This card still supports 8 bit palletized textures, last one was Radeon 8500/9250, thus you can play Metal Gear: Solid Snake PC in hardware mode with properly rendered text

Jokes aside... the card is barely worth the shipping price. It may be handy as a backup... stuff happens you know.

prob will be better to keep it bc if i build a new system later on after i get the GTX 960 i can use that GPU on my new pc and put the 640 back in the one i am using now

Absolutely sell it. Really emphasize that it has 3GB of vram and some ignorant person will think it must be better than any card with only 2GB.

If you want a backup card, just cruise the deals next BF. I bought a GTX 750 for less than you will get for your GT 640 on ebay. A GT 640 is crappy enough that Intel's crappy on board GPU is nearly as good, and AMD's is better... so it's basically useless.

I'd get a second hand 760, its about the same speed as a 960 and pretty cheap now. Should be able to get one for around $150.

960 is shit, skip it if you are in the market now unless it goes for prices way lower than what they are advertised with today. Card is worth just about 170 eur TOPS, but went on sale for 230 eur.

The card is overpriced, better alternatives are already available in previous gen, look towards AMD 280/280x and you get a lot more gpu for your money. Second hand GTX 770 will also give you more gpu at a similar price point. Those go for between 180-210 eur...

760 new is also a good choice.
