Why bother use google, when i can ask here ^^, ?
It's fine to ask here, but you need to provide more detail to clarify the context. People then have more to go on and it makes the conversation more interesting and fun.

7 is still a solid OS, but 8.1 is a solid improvement that is worth going to if you have the option.

Not sure what you really want though...such a vague question leads me to think you should do some self-guided research, or list what you're interested in, what you plan to do with your system, etc. I agree with others you should be utilizing your searching skills as well too, its great to ask questions, but you are not clear on your point...your question is too broad, vague, generalized.

We could simply answer "Windows 8.1 is moar betterz than Windows 7!!!". That creates nothing new or useful to you or anyone else that may or may not read this thread. Get some ideas about what you want to know about, gather some real questions and inquiries, and this thread will be a vastly different scene.

To answer your more direct question you jUst asked: Windows 8/8.1 does start up and shut down faster. It also has an unquantifiable pep for most programs over what 7 was for me. What I mean is, I haven't timed them, but most of the same programs I used before seem to have a slight edge in 8.1. The search function is faster.

As to games, benchmark studies were done at release that showed in MOST games, W8 had a slight edge of 1-3 fps. Nothing you'll really notice, IMO. Every game that was compatible with 7 runs just fine on 8, at least for me.

Yes, i thougth so :)

basicly what I wonder about is, will it make my game's run better.
Does it make program's faster, faster startup etc ? stuff like that.

Good start I suppose...what games do you play? What kind of performance improvements do you seek?

What is your interest in upgrading to 8.1?

Windows 8.1 is more efficient in how it handles just about everything versus 7, so yes it's a snappier and faster OS overall. Will it be night and day difference for you? Maybe...maybe not. Depends on how you configure your system, what you decide loads at startup, if you have an SSD or SSHD for OS duties, etc. Those all can make a difference.

Honestly I noticed overall that 8.1 was a smoother and snappier experience, and after getting over their lack of the Windows 7 glass-style interface which I loved for the simpler 8.1 interface which I now prefer, I was pretty happy. Memory consumption seems to be about the same...but in research I did when looking into upgrading to 8, I found a couple articles about how 8 handles memory better than 7 in a couple different ways that should translate into stability and performance improvements.

I also like the fact that Windows 8.1 Pro includes Hyper-V, and I've used the hell out of that, and transferred VM's between my Server 2012R2 server and laptop or workstation with ease.

Windows 8.1 as a total experience to me is smoother than 7, there are some things I don't use like the Metro interface, being replaced with a bypass in Classic Shell (Free, get from Ninite.com with other good utilities), and I didn't like when 8 would force a reboot for pending updates if you didn't after 3 days. That was a stupid move that they've since resolved thankfully.

Beyond that, whether connected to a domain or not, 8.1 is awesome, I play old games, new games, it all runs great... but for strict performance comparison, I go by what works for me...and both 7 and 8.1 do...but 8.1 does it better. Especially on my laptop, where its efficiency improvements really help out with OS loading, program/game loading, power saving, etc.

Hope that helps! :toast:

We don't deal with Piracy here, it is strongly recommended to be legit.

Linux is good too, check out Ubuntu 14, not as good as Windows for gaming, but I use it about half the time.

Yeah, between "piracy" and "linux" I can really only legally make one recommendation, lol.

Linux has a big learning curve from windows land, but is every bit as capable if you are willing to learn. If you aren't playing video games, Ubuntu linux is a great OS, though I heard they messed with the interface a bit last release in a bad way.

Besides being a banned subject, installing pirate software tends to come with a malware payload so isn't worth it due to that alone.

the way I have seen msi update bios is it is tied into windows version.. like the 970a-g46 has a note to only update the bios to a certain point for windows 7.. since your using a newer 970 gaming it would lead me to believe it is tailored for windows 8.

microsoft would rather you use a 90 day free copy than use a crap illegal version https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/bb403698?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

We could simply answer "Windows 7 is moar betterz than Windows 8.1!!!". That creates nothing new or useful to you or anyone else that may or may not read this thread. Get some ideas about what you want to know about, gather some real questions and inquiries, and this thread will be a vastly different scene.

we use both win 7 and win 8.1 here in our house.
My wifes computer has win 7 ultimate and I use win 8.1 on mine. Theres a little difference between the two OS, but 8.1 is just that bit more quick in start/close and feels more snappy overall. Gaming is just about the same and if you use chassic shell it works just like win 7

Got win8(.1) for c-mas and after some tweaking with start 8, I love it. @Ebo is right it is way more snappy. I believe they tweaked the Mem management and such and 8.1 likes my 840 ssd better than 7 did. I get slightly better read write not much but hey some is better than nadda.
Not once it two months have I had any problems with the O/S itself or compatibility with games, drivers, or software. I won't go back. One thing I will say is when first signing up I stayed clear of the Microsoft Accnt and created an off line one due to not needing Cloud storage and not wanting Microsoft to have a clone of my info.
