Hi Guys,

My internet provider is ready to provide me internet through fiber channel as his internet providing(racks, switches) setup room is just 10 meters away from my home.

-Would you suggest me some routers of some equipment which can satisfy my fiber internet setup at home with WiFi facility?

-is there any adapter I can use to connect to PC(motherboard)?

-Will it be more expensive?

Thanks
Michael.

I'd say just use a media converter down to a router with a 100Mbps WAN port (or gig). Actually, if it's just 10 meters, why not just run some CAT6?

Thanks for info.
I already have CAT6 cable installed. Router is Linksys E3200 (450Mbps Wireless Speed.)

but my question is that will it enhance my Internet speed because eventually the CAT 6 cable will go from this converter to my Router.

Can we have these "RX" and "TX" port directly on any Router ....?

Your router has a gigabit WAN port, so both fiber and CAT6 will (likely) connect at gigabit speeds. Unless the existing connection can't connect at gigabit speeds, I really doubt you'd see any speed improvements by moving to fiber. I'm not aware of any routers that have fiber ports built in (maybe a Cisco ASA with a SFP port or something?). A quick Google image search comes up with a few routers with SFP ports, but most look like renderings or cheap no-name things.

What speed is your router connected to your neighbor at now? If it's gigabit, I wouldn't expect doing anything with fiber would make any difference. If not, make sure the equipment on both ends is capable of gigabit (or 100Mbps if it's only at 10Mbps).

4MBPS unlimited. I don't think I have Gigabit port on Linksys E3200......

As far as speeds are concerned, there definitely wouldn't be any difference between copper and fiber. If you can do copper, just go for that. It's cheaper and easier. If there's some other reason why you need fiber, a fiber media converter would likely be the best bet. :toast:

Why would there not be any difference in speed if I use fiber channel over CAT6 cable?

Because a 4 Mbps connection doesn't come remotely close to saturating the bandwidth of either cable.

$20 per month for unlimited 4MBPS is the maximum I can afford and enough for my needs.
So what is the minimum speed I should have to witness noticeable difference in speed ?
But still I would have loved to see any Fiber Channel supported routers on market.
Edited:-
So will "Asus RT-AC87U Dual-Band Wireless AC2400 Router - Up to 1734Mbit/s at 5GHz and 6" will bring some diffrence in speed than using Linksys E3200?

About 1Gig.

The only reason companies use fibre over copper for home internet connection is because of the distance. Standard copper CAT6 only works at 100% bandwidth at 90 meters length plus 10 meters patch cable (100 meters total) or below. Fibre can go for miles while maintaining 100% bandwidth.

EDIT: Found a reference on IEEE for 10Gbps fibre distance. Somebody managed 80-100KM (Ref)

Up to 1734Mbit/s

That's in a lab, and requires aggregation of two network cables. It means two people could talk to each other at ~700-800Mbps transfer speed, but the internet connection would still be 4Mbps, and be shared and thus halved assuming total network equality.

No router is going to make your 4Mbps broadband any faster. You're only going to increase your local network transfer speed (a la PC to PC or PC to Laptop transfer speeds).

Ummm, ethernet's initial specification at 10-BASE T would be enough for 4Mbps. Bandwidth is bandwidth. There is no reason to run fiber or even a wire for that matter. Just about anything can handle 4Mbps just fine. Hell, full strength 802.11B would be enough.

All in all, the only time you should be considering fiber is for long runs or for extremely high bandwidth applications, but doing anything to try and make 4Mbps faster is laughable to say the least. Just do what ever is cheapest.
