I've had my 7970 since the day they released. Still works.

Amen to that. I have a Sapphire 7970 that I bought in January 2012, and it's sitting in my bro's pc for the last year after 2 years of use with me, rock solid. It's been overclocked a little bit, it crunched for a while (WCG, not coin), very great card.

I'd go for a xfx they stand by their product 110% and even have support staff on the forum here.

Failure rate is very high but it's mostly due to bad drivers. Failure to run games well

Last driver update was Dec 8 2014

ya but look at the subjects, all artifacts and flickering, even videos about it.
the other cards are just minor random problems
Ah yes, good point.

What's the difference between this model: http://www.gigabyte.pl/products/page/vga/gv-r797wf3-3gd/ and these:
http://www.gigabyte.pl/products/page/vga/gv-r797oc-3gd/
http://www.gigabyte.pl/products/page/vga/gv-r797to-3gd/

Only clock and memory rate? I'm asking because I can purchase gv-r797wf3-3gd model with almost 2 year warranty for about 175$ (650 PLN). And if the only difference is frequency, it seems to be a good deal. It looks like the build quality is the same on these 3 variants.

What do you think?

Yeah clock and memory rate and the GHz Edition has the highest. It is a decent card!

PS make sure it fits in your case Untitled2.jpg

driver ... nice ... i didn't know that ...

maybe because my 290 is updated to the lastest driver and has no issue .... nor was my 7950 or my 7870, except for the infamous BSOD (Black screen not the blue one ) on the 7870

for the model any is fine (ASUS is fine ... no matter what others says ... i had countless ASUS card and none took a RMA and most of them still run fine) basic recommendation : Sapphire/ASUS, stay away: XFX/Club3D (personal experience)

Hmm... the seller has 2 same cards - worked in CrossFire mode. I wonder, is it 100% non-damaged. He said, both cards are 100% good, and he never had any problem. But... when I asked him about showing artifacts, he said: "I didn't notice any artifacts, but if you want, I could test the card again, and let you know."

Two cards in CFx, so he played them pretty hard and his answer about artifacts seems like he want to hide something...

Why would you assume he "played them pretty hard" if anything Crossfire might suggest they individually would be pushed less than a single card where you would perhaps try harder to pull out ever bit of performance. He said he would check for you on the artifacts so take him up on the offer.

The only problem I see is some vrm's have no cooling.

And the second problem is, all of these cards in newer revision don't have voltage control. But I think it couldn't be a problem to achieve 1000-1050 MHz on GPU without voltage tweak, and ~6000 MHz effective on memory. What do you think?
Also, I can't find BIOS files to gv-r797wf3-3gd.

I saw, that some people tried to flash BIOS from GHz edition (gv-r797to-3dg) and it seems to be works good with clocks raised to GHz edition.

i think it's nonsense:
gigabyte as one of the biggest manufacturers is not such stupid to have 3 versions and product them from zero stage each, every product is calibrated and if it cant operate with 1050Mhz in all benches, they downclock it to 975Mhz, even not pass->925Mhz
i'm not saying that you cant OC grafics card, but in 85% manufacturer sets optimized clocks for certain card and certain individual chip(expt maxwell as i think there can be more hidden stones ->every card is squezzed at factory expt maxwell(low temps and huge OC possibility comes from downclocked product)->smthg wrong with it)
so think twice - do you want to risk?

Are you talking about OC, or BIOS flashing?

I bought my Sapphire 7970 OC pretty late in the model cycle (little over 2 yrs ago), and it's OK at stock OC speed, but if I try to OC it any further, it artifacts bad, esp on games like Far Cry 3. It also has an ASIC Quality of only 61%, so it's high current leakage, which is bad for air cooling.

You can get a 290 starting at about $245, worth considering.
