Im looking at a Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB SSD but am unsure what the actual concensus about it is. Logan from TekSyndicate recently warned about the Kingston SSDNow series. I am therefor curious about the HyperX 3K.

Is this a good SSD for the money? Are there better? I know about the Samsung drives but to be honest, the recent firmware issues with the 840 concern me and I am now wary of the 850 since we don't know if that is going to happen there or not yet.

My Samsung 840 works like a dream, I don't you should be afraid of giving them a go. Especially when you look at the price tag ---> http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E3W15P0/?tag=tec06d-20

In general, Samsung offer very reliable and top-end quality products in my experience, so that's why I would (personally) recommend the 840 :)

Try it again, edited it; for some reason this forum doesn't like links to Amazon UK.

Well if you can in Windows then I'm assuming you can in Linux, but I don't know for certain.

That is like $20 more expensive than the drive I listed.

So is Kingston a good brand? I like their Memory but I don't know anything about their SSD. Im looking for the best 120GB SSD under $80

I am also looking at this Kingston Fury

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104483

From looking at the reviews it seems the only negatives are that it is a bare drive with no partitioning. I don't see how that is a negative but whatever.

For $90 you can get a 256gb ssd and in real word usage you won't see any difference between a budget and performance ssd. For me personally the only thing I care about is longevity aka TBW rating. If you wait for deals they even drop to $80. Transcend ssd370 is a nice drive

OCZ Arc 100 is more in the class of V300, HyperX 3K is a perfromance drive and the best one of what you linked if you insist in paying double the price / gb

If you have to choose between the two, go for the ARC 100 and stay away from SF drives.

point being as i said you can get double the capacity for $10 meaning $0.65/GB vs $0.35/GB. Nothing wrong with sandforce. The Arc 100 is rated at only 22TBW which is ridicoulous 290TBW of the Kingston or the 280TBW of the 256GB Transcend SSD370

SandForce is only "good" with compressible data, not for operating systems or general use really and the fact they are dead. Seagate bought them and I doubt you see any further support or updates for them.

Sandisk Ultra II is worth considering too. Same price range as other SSDs, snappy and the included software is neat.
