I picked up one of these for about $15 a year or so ago.
Only about 1/2 size of my Ninja, but overall it worked pretty good, just not for 1.4v @5Ghz

Based on my experiences ith intel for more than 11 years of using its craps:

About Stock Coolers:
Pre-aplied Tim that comes with them is like mayonaise, works well for a coupl of hours,
When they got old... its legs may become harder to fit into motherboard socket tray holes,
They are optimized for catch dust inside disipation fins... pretty hard to clean out sometimes...

After 32yrs, about 200+ pc's all Intel systems, IT never had a cpu die, or even cause system issues.
Many were out in the production floor's in very filthy conditions, and most never even got a cleaning.

And about TIM, I use some ebay spectra-cool and even permatex antisieze, they both work really good, just depend's on which one I find first

For a home user, not going to be pushing a cpu to limit's for hours on end, the stock coolers would be fine.
Granted some are better than others, but most "PC enthuisist" will do a cleaning at some point, albeit 3 months, or once a year

If OP's has the free pick of a copper base Intel cooler, and since I dont recall anything from OP about OC'ing that cooler will work very good.

@cookiemonster if the noise factor, ie pushing the cpu to 100% for a long period may bother you, then you may think about getting another cooler for less noise and better heat control. If it's just a regular use, and light gaming setup, it'd be good.

Might give us a head's up on the usage for the system it's going to be used, but based on your OP, a stock setup and free, good to go.

I think what it comes down to is the size and shape of the cooling fins on it and then airflow too.

the biggest problem is any solid metal area is great in sucking up heat and copper is better at it then aluminum but a solid metal area sucks in getting rid of heat so the fins are where it matters to get rid of the heat.

I find most stock coolers have thicker fins that don't get rid of heat as well as the aftermarket coolers with thinner fins do.

I have had seen the coolers totally caked with dust that did cause system overheating, even system shutdowns. But I wouldn't blame the cooler for that, I'd blame the user and the dust. I've seen liquid cooled systems having shutdowns due to dust.

Hi the system is for my granddaughter who is nearly 5, I asked for help on the system builders forum on techpowerup and I got help from krusha03 and a lot of other members,
this is the system that krusha03 advised me to go for as it is only for homework and watching dvds and small games.

I decided to put my i5 into it instead of the i3 and I put in a Seagate 1TB Barracuda Internal Hard Drive - OEM and the usual mouse, keyboard, 2.1 speakers and also a tube of Arctic Mx-4 (20g) Thermal Compound it seems to have grown as each day from a basic system to quite a good one, also an Asus R7250-1GD5 graphics card.

+1 on both.

I have also built 100s of computers, using stock coolers and stock TIM and never once had a failure or issue because of it in stock conditions. If there was an overheat situation it was due to lack of cleaning rather than "crappy" TIM. There are so many other factors to worry about with overheating, that the goop between the CPU and cooler is really a minimal deal, as long as there is some there and its of OE or better quality, odds are you'll be just fine. No need to over analyze that part of the factor, I suppose unless you're eeking out every little degree. I keep a tube of MX4 around for reseats, but I let the preapplied stuff do its job. If it didn't work worth a damn, they wouldn't preapply it and there'd be A LOT of RMA's and possibly class-action lawsuits in this lawsuit happy world we live in.

@newtekie1 For sure on both count's 'Tekie!
I'd not hesitate a bit to toss this big ole 2600k HSF stright on a CPU for close to stock use.
Every stock HSF I' got from Intel, even back from the ole 300A Celerons running at 928 was on Intel TIM
I remember many years ago[decade mabey], the post with lot of pic's of nasty pc's ! IIRC you had some of them in there, super nasty, but most all but some AMD's were still "working"

As for "after" when chnging, or removing the HSF, I don't run out and get some "OMG this is the TIM Bestest", I just slap on something that's seem's OK'

On near stock Intel HSF I would use them right out of the box.
As for "after" when chnging, or removing the HSF, I don't run out and get some "OMG this is the TIM Bestest", I just slap on something that's seem's OK'

maybe ... my point over intel stock TIM is high temps... even i3 proccessor on idlle shows high temps, this can be lowered to a decent or excellent temps replacing TIM,

about Cooler and dust?
i have not said that because of filty coolers i have seen / had issues, is ultra disgusting having a filty cooler, due slim fins it has over its body cleaningn task hard to do, you may have to disarm ir prior to clean ...

If Intel TIM is s you quote ^^ , like other's have said, Intel would have had major LAWSUIT's against them for the crap TIM because the CPU's overheat and the system wont function properly.
That's why they have safeguard's built into them.

A user that "want's" to change TIM, for say O/C'ing for MAX performance, or just because they want to say wow I shaved "X" C* from my temps using "X" TIM,
don't make a Stock Intel Cpu work better, last longer, or even add a Stock performance advantage.
That's as wild as some saying "I would never buy a Foxcon M/B"
Let it go brother, millions, and decades vs your '"opinion" , it stands Stock Intel TIM/HSF works as intended for CPU Specifications .
