Hi,
Got an old HP laptop which motherboard needs to be replaced.
Been searching around some websites and I found a few that have the model that I need, although after seeing some reviews not sure what I should do. Most reviews say they scam and stuff like that.
So I'm a bit clueless where to look.
For example this website: http://www.buymotherboard.net/
Almost ordered from them but then after I saw some reviews not sure anymore.
Anyone knows it ?
Ebay would be the best option but most of the sellers do not ship to Europe and even if they do the motherboard will be most likely stuck in the customs and I'll need to pay more to get it.

Thanks in advance

If it's old, just buy a different 2nd hand machine. Easier and less worries.

You can get a new i3 machine for $3-400 now. I'm sure you'll be able to find a decent 2nd hand o;der for only a little more than a new mobo.

When I say its old I mean it has like 5 years but it was barely used, it still shines, its like brand new.
The board would be under $100
But yeh I guess theres no choice...

How do you know it is the motherboard that is fubar?

Its a problem in that model series, some problem related with the solder cracking and making bad contact. Theres lots of people with that problem.
There is some fix around, reflow soldering?
Basically just put the motherboard in the oven. I'm tempted to try it, the board is dead anyway.

That solder issue you are referring to is due to the Nvidia chipset/graphics built in. There was a major class action filed against Nvidia over this. Any motherboard to buy whether it is new or used will eventually result in the board going dead over time. The only fix I could think of is if the boards were resoldered, not reflowed, but actually broken down and given a fresh bath in some higher quality solder. Kinda like the original Xbox 360 and PS3, heat kills. Or in this case, poor build quality of the electronics.

Yes thats exactly the problem, tried to reflow (kinda, put it in the oven) but didn't work.
I've read about what you said as well, new or used it will eventually get the same problem later on.
Its a friend's laptop, now its up to him to choose what to do.

Thanks for the help and advice :D

By the sounds of things, investing in a new mobo would have been a bad idea anyway. If it is a common problem, who is to say the next one wouldn;t die a month later.

Greetings.
Right, [1st post?] I may get berated for 'opening-up' [?] a thread that's >1 year old, but as the warning stipulated "If you feel it is necessary" & indeed I do & here's why;
I purchased said lemon, HP G6 Pavilion 1014sa [€600] back in 2011 & after several breakdowns, within the warranty, accredited to faulty HDD's [told I was just very unfortunate - just under a month to collect, 'fix' & return each time] it inevitably broke-down again - cost of fixing it through the retailer Currys/Knowhow amounted to a new comp.
I took it to a local IT store & before I'd the comp. out of my bag, he told me what was wrong with it; GPU soldered & as mentioned he said he could heat & reset it, saying that it might last a year before the issue would arise again and for the last time. He then offered me €190 for it, which I declined partly due to my naivety in thinking surely there's a resolution &/or Currys/HP would assist. Silly me.

I thought I'd scoured the net in relation to this issue but this is the first time I've come across a statement such as yours @kiddagoat.

The HP website offered no assistance whatsoever in relation to this issue, choosing to answer the odd unrelated post in an 11 page thread, almost laughable really.
Currys discontinued selling the product but wouldn't admit to any wrong doing on their part.

I found myself here today from researching; buy-motherboard. [net/com] as the .com one has offered me a $200 [roughly] price on a g6-1014sa motherboard.
After reading your post I'm extremely hesitant & I'd be grateful for advice and reference related to these topics.

Thanks and possible apologises to anyone reading this, I've read the forum rules and found no mention to refrain from listing companies & any online-forum faux pas that may have been committed here, well in my defense, it was done so in ignorance.

This whole issue has proved very frustrating for me ~ It seems I bought a product that was always destined to fail, one which no one involved will admit to or offer realistic assistance towards?
I hope this may be of help to someone suffering the same "HP Pavilion g6 1014sa" experience, and please don't hessitate to contact me in regards this/these issues, regardless of the passage of time - I will assist you however I can.
That you. Helpsimpleton .
