Basically this is what I am thinking. WD 1TB Blacks are on sale for $70 and i can get it through amazon with free 2 days shipping for that price. Basically I record a lot of what I deem as awesome gameplay (mainly WoW) that is recorded at 1080p @60fps. Would having a WD black hard drive add any benefit over say a Green of the same size?

If not, I wont bother with the purchase. The hdd would basically be used in a USB 3.0 hdd dock that would be connected to a USB3.0 port.

I'd worry that the write speed on the Green drive would be too low for directly recording gameplay. Though that also depends on what settings you use to record.

I mean more along the lines of how you are encoding the video before it is written to the hard drive. If you are just writing raw video to the hard drive, then I doubt the Green could keep up. However, if the video is being compressed/encoded first and then written, then it may.

Oh my bad. I believe it is encoding using H.264.

EDIT: Just remoted into my home desktop and its Recording 1080p HD resolution, 60FPS, 50Mbps using H.264

Hey there, @CrAsHnBuRnXp !

As it was already mentioned, you'd definitely experience a performance boost with the WD Black. Especially if you already have a WD Green, put them side-by-side with the Black and you will know what I mean. :)
Basically, the WD Green is mostly used as secondary massive storage drive and I'm not sure it will be able to keep up with your gameplay recordings. WD Black, on the other hand, is designed exactly for high-performance gaming PCs. It incorporates enhanced features that maximize your system performance and offers 7200 RPM with 64 MB cache. Oh, yeah, and it has a 5-year limited warranty.
I'd suggest to see the product pages of both drives and check their features yourself.

Hope this was helpful!
