I actually bought my 286(899.99 on sale) at Sam's Club...

. It was my first major purchase after owning an 8086(or was it 8088? can't remember) from a pawn shop and a commodore 64. Although...the first commodore I had looked like this....

Precursor to the laptop? Smile....

I was actually jealous of all my friends who had those wickedly nice IBM 386's with the color monitors...the 486 that I built into a tower was my response. 1990's e-peen I suppose.

@Caring1 "old dot matrix printers" i love that sound, our local builders merchant uses one, it really takes me back to the days when everything took ages, even the monitors had to warm up,

I had one of those printers hooked up to a 486 IBM clone back in the day, I loved the sound they made too.
(it might have been the 386sx, my memories going and I had both)

Most painful install I ever had to do was OS/2 warp 3 we bought on floppy disks. It came on 40 something odd floppy disk with a 20 something pack of supplments you needed to get anything done.

It was a heavy box. You were rewarded with a pretty decent OS (hell, it beat any 9x) that IBM abandoned almost immediately.

Hell, those are quiet compared to the daisy wheels, well a different sound, I guess. Like comparing a buzz saw to a large axe striking over and over.
