Hello friends. I am just about to click purchase on this build and was wondering what you all thought of it. I don't plan on overclocking or going crossfire or 2-sli.

Also do motherboards generally come with cables to connect hard drives? Right now I have a retail kit selected for a hard drive but could get a bare drive cheaper.

Decided to go with intel i5+970 combo (I'm a Nvidia Fan boy)

Parts are still open to consideration, will order on Sunday 3/15/15

Hey @Bob180 your build looks exactly the same as the build of @Old180 in this thread :p

So i will tell you what I told him. With $950 budget it's foolish to go with an AMD cpu. And that comes from a guy with both an AMD cpu and gpu. Also you will need a better cooler. Alternative build here:

You could also take a non-k cpu if you dont plan to overclock which will save you about $50 and actually ending up cheaper and better than your build. In the end it's your money and your system but I dont understand why are you asking for other people's advice if you are not willing to take it into consideration

Is there some reason that you need 16 GB RAM? If your rig will be primarily for gaming then I would go with krusha03 build but drop 8 GB RAM and the DVD drive and use the extra $$$ for a better GPU.

@krusha03 : Great build , maybe get 2x4gb ram and put the extra money on GPU to go for 280x or preferably 290.

Don't want AMD GPU (doesn't come with onboard PhysX) plus AMD CPU is $60 cheaper than Intel i5. Want atleast 256gb ssd, plus got the cx 500 since it is only $29.99.

Why are you looking at just the price of the CPU? look at the total system price. And why do you need PhysX, it's a dead proprietary sdk. Here is a better build for gaming. I put a 256GB because it seems that these extra few GB are making a big difference for you and if you want to go for a lesser power supply to safe $10-20 fo for it. The R9 290 is 45% faster than a 960 but well if you wanna go for amd cpu + nvidia gpu (worst price / performance combo for your budget) go for it

Intel and No on the CX500 with a GTX970 + 4690K you need a better PSU. HX AX RM TX. Or Seasonic G series

look at it this way. GTX970 $340 + 4690K $200 and a $30 PSU? does this make any sense?

The CX500 is a good PSU for a budget build. They do fail occasionally when stressed

Problem is that I ABSOLUTELY don't want to go over 1k on this build. Already have peripherals.

Would have to get rid of the SSD to make room.

Best price / performance card now is the R9 290. You get withing few percent of the 970, have full 4GB at disposal and it costs 30% less.

Edit: Also do you plan to overclock? If i remember well you said no so you can do with a non-k cpu which will save you few bucks. Do you have old HDD to reuse for the beginning?

Don't have an old HDD to reuse. Would possibly overclock the i5 just to get close to 4.0 but to be honest, overclocking doesn't seem to do a ton.

Updated with new PSU and i5-4690

Should I get the 970 (no ssd included) or 960 with a 256gb ssd?

To be honest I might just go $34 above my 1k budget and get a ssd but I don't really want to.

Are you set on that Case? You could get a cheaper one for like 30-40$ allowing you to get a more powerful PSU and a 2TB HDD (you need $30 for that)

The SSD isn't in stock sadly. I would be open to a cheaper case. Approx. $45

well another way to get under your budget and get everything is to not spend 100 on w8.1 , just put w10 build till it's officially released or maybe linux ?

edit: also check for 4460 and 4590 on CPU's if you are not overclocking.

Can't find a 4460 or 4590 for cheaper than what I currently have selected.

Build looks good. Glad to help. Final note the enermax psu i linked is good enough or you can even go for the 630W version for $10 . Your max power consumption will be around 300W (400W if you overclock ) so any power supply above 450W is fine. 600+W would be useful if you plan to use SLI in the future but for that you would need a different board as well
